Box - where did you get that from..
In the story they report how he was so mad at Vick that he nearly pulled him out of the game. Seems pretty gutless to me to wait and let the University handle the discipline.

Like I said earlier..."With their first round selection, the Raiders pick Marcus Vick, unemployed QB from the gutter". Or maybe the Vikings...man, can you imagine the party boat next year?

Per ESPN, he was just let go by Virginia

Box -
I just re-read the ESPN story and I don't see what you are talking about. Was there another story you are referring to?

Db, I followed the link in Drewdagreat's post which took me to this story - I found it in the reference stories, upper right.

Here's the text I was referring to:
Vick stepped on Dumervil's calf after the defensive end tackled the Hokies' junior quarterback. After the play, Vick seemed to pause before walking across Dumervil's leg.

He was not penalized on the play, but was rebuked at halftime by quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers, who said he even considered pulling Vick from the lineup.

Vick said later it was "an accidental play, and football is football." He also said he had apologized to Dumervil. Dumervil said no apology had been offered.
-----
Rogers, who has mentored Vick in his on-field and off-field behavior, was livid with his quarterback, chewing him out at halftime, and after the game.

"There's no reason for that in the game," Rogers said. "It's flat-out embarrassing. I don't coach that way, and I don't expect him to play that way."
Big game or not, if there's no place for that behavior then remove the problem.

Email from my cousin--Hokie die hard

University President Charles Steger Statement on Marcus Vick

January 6, 2006

Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick has been permanently dismissed from the Hokie football program due to a cumulative effect of legal infractions and unsportsmanlike play.

Virginia Tech had suspended Vick in 2004. The university provided one last opportunity for Vick to become a citizen of the university and re-admitted him in January 2005, with the proviso that any future problems would result in automatic dismissal from the team.

Head Football Coach Frank Beamer met with Vick and his mother this afternoon and informed the quarterback and his family of the University's decision. His recent actions are unfortunate and we wish him well in his future endeavors.

****

Said Coach Frank Beamer, "I'm very disappointed that this didn't have a better ending. We wanted what's best for this football team and Marcus. I certainly wish him the best."

Well

In addition to the "on field" incident. apparently there is another "off the field" incident that happened in december. If i remember correctly he got arrested for driving on a suspended license (or something like that) and there is more legal action pending. As someone who has to hear all the VT crap down here all year, i can't say i am sad to see him go---he got caught up in his brothers shadow (you know the 26th ranked "all pro" quarterback  )and thought he could get away with anything. I doubt any NFL team will pick him up, if they do it will be after the draft.

Ok. There were two different articles. One says it and one doesn't.

I totally agree with you about Vick's actions. They were classless and I said so to my roommate when it happened. I still can't believe he wasn't flagged for it when it was right in front of the officials.

I agree that Rogers should have pulled Vick immediately.
