How did you become a PATS fan??

Yup, although I've never met him. They lived in Mass. (of course) and I lived in Southern California when I was young. Actually thinking about it there was one family thing where he might of been there, but since I'm 4 years older than he is he would have only been a couple years old. And I was too young to really care about who was there...I don't think I even realized/cared at that point my uncle (by marriage) was a football player.

I remember one time Mosi got me and my cousin an autographed official football. We were just 8-10 so we just went out and played with the ball, and tore it up and eventually lost it. But I do have a boat load of autographed cards.

Good stuff.

But if i had a footballing cousing i'd be demanding tickets :p

Does seem a bit strange that if he walked past you he wouldn't recognise you even though your cousins (well, unless he knows what you look like)

I am a Buffalo Bills fan but a terrible troll! I refuse to deceive you guys that way!

Please read my thread in the new member's forum!

I am very happy to be here, and the Patriots fans have been just great to me!

When did I become a Bills fan?

1967 at the Rockpile in Buffalo, we lost 53-6 to the Oakland Raiders..... Wow, that was fun (lol)

I like to welcome the Johnny Come Latelys to the old AFL

Well, my nic kind of says when it started...a friend took me to Foxboro for the Season Opener in 1974, when the Pats beat the reigning SB champ Dolphins. It was "destiny" from that moment and I've stuck with these guys through thick and (a lot of) thin since then.

I started watching games with my dad when I was around 8 years old; right around when Drew came in. I haven't stopped following them since.

I was also eight when my Dad took me to some practices for this new team called the Boston Patriots...........

Then he took me to a college stadium where he said the BU Terriers play and the old Boston Braves used to play, BU Field, there, I was able to attend the first ever Patriot football game Vs the Broncos and have been hooked ever since!!

Welcome. Between your team and the Bengals they could put a team in Alcatraz. They could be called The Alcatraz Bengalbills. :D Tough stretch of luck for you guys lately huh? IMO, Lynch and Whitner are your two best players, so it'll suck for you if the owner doesn't want them anymore.

This is a major subject on all the Buffalo message boards.

Defending this type of player is ridiculous, but some fans just don't understand the problems they cause on your team

Some fans believe that Ralph Wilson will never jump such players.

I say they are wrong, oh yes he will!

I would have to say Marshawn Lynch and Donte Whitner are about done in Buffalo, perhaps the Bengals will be interested?

I am embarrassed as a fan with such media reports, really!

I'm not a life life long pats fan like most others on this board. I been a Randy Moss fan since he came outta Marshall. So I been Vikings fan and Raiders fan. But until I started following the Pats when Moss got traded, I had no idea how great the patriots organization was. I've really been a fan of or followed a team who emphasizes the word TEAM,a genius at helm like BB, and a Hall of Fame QB in Brady. So even when Randy retires I'm still gonna be a Pats fan.

Great story! Congrats and hope you kept the ticket stub!

Trivia Question for the many others who weren't as lucky as you to be there: who scored the first Patriot points?

Born in Lawrence, Mass. My dad has been a fan since day one.

I do not have the stub......Mom threw it away along with my box of what she called, old dusty worthless baseball cards back in '65 (that would have been my Ted Williams cards, Yaz rookie, Nellie fox's, Mantles etc etc).

I do have the original program though (bought on EBAY).

I do know the answer, but will not spoil it.......I have to say the way that Patriot - Bronco game of 9/9/60 ended (Broncos beat the Patriots, 13-10, on a 76-yard third quarter Gene Mingo punt return), it was kind of a precursor to the way things would be, at least for the next 42 years that is, until that magical '01 season turned it all around.

Check this out.....

Coach Frank Filchock and Broncos Players

As one Boston native recently put it to me, "well there's Worcester, then it's just some kind of green blur until you hit Lenox, right?"

(By the way, if anybody wonders whatever happened to the Cambridge that used to be filled with used book stores, little ethnic restaurants and cafes instead of Abercrombie & Fitch, it's still around...it just moved to Northampton.)

Pioneer valley is the most beeeoootiful part of the state.

Grew up outside of Boston. Enough said.

The Patriots came into existence when I was a little kid, so I remember Jim Nance, Babe Parilli, Gino Cappelletti, Houston Antwine, and the list goes on and on. I grew up here on Cape Cod as a Pats fan and still am to this day.

A crusty old Chef on my ship talked a lot of football to me. He told me all about the Great Tuna and some kid named Drew who was going to save the franchise. I haven't left yet. I still need to thank that crusty sailor from the USS Vandegrift. Thanks man- you changed my life.

Well - I'm not a Pats fan(as you all know, I'm a Cowboys fan), but FWIW - I first came to this board in 2006 when Bledsoe was the goat of the 1st Eagles game that year, and was wondering why he was called out as the whipping boy of this game when there were other problems Dallas had...which is why I came here to ask questions et al - and got good explanations...one of them being how Bledsoe only makes good decisions 50% of the time, while Brady has proven to do so 95% of the time, regardless of how the OL/WR/OC et al plays and calls the plays.

LOL. I'm not a Pat's fan either. I actually hate them...ease off guys, I'm not here to cause trouble. I see football as entertainment mostly, and what would the sport be without rivalry?

I'm a Bills fan. The point being is that I can also relate to Bledsoe. We had him for a few years. We got rid of Bledsoe only to replace him with Losman, which I thought was a mistake then and still do. This says more about Losman than it does Bledsoe. I read somewhere that Bledsoe had made more money in the NFL than anyone in history around the time of his departure...just a tidbit.

I became a Bills fan because I had no choice. My father was a big fan, and my mother actually worked for the Bills organization for over 10 years while I was growing up, so we had season tickets. I probably couldn't get away from it if I tried. Been a fan ever since I was about 6 or 7, so it's been 30 years.

I come this board and usually just lurk to see what is going on with this team. I do the same thing on other team's boards.

To be fair - that 2005 #1 pick you guys gave us for Losman, Marcus Spears, didn't turn out to be any better. Yes - he's improved and turned out to be a very good role player, and is a very good run stopper to boot, however - he's NOT been the beast player he was at LSU, nor the level of player our other 2005 #1 pick(Ware) has been.

I saw that they won three Superbowls and climbed up on to the bandwagon!

Seriously though, If you're looking for the "reason" I became a Pats fan the best one I can give you is because I live in Nova Scotia and we get the Boston network channels here so I just saw them on all the time. I had only gotten in to football a year before when Joe Montana went to the Chiefs so I watched them for a bit of 93 then I watched the dolphins for a few games and then became a Pats fan in 94 and never looked back.

I started watching football when I was 16, am 38 now.

I just took to football that year, NE had a strong team, then it was hard to stay a pats fan for the years that followed but when Bledsoe was drafted I saw hope.

so yeah, after '86.

added: Also like NSPF said, we live in Nova Scotia so Nwe were picking up NE feeds. Just kinda grew on us. And our towns (Halifax/Boston) have the same type of feel, family/friends/cousins in both, geographically close. Just seemed right to cheer for the Patriots....:)
