From PFW:
Although some have questioned why the Broncos wouldn’t be determined to make a player with Tony Scheffler’s ability fit into their system, we hear the team is entertaining offers for him. Word is head coach Josh McDaniels doesn’t view Scheffler, a pass-catching tight end, as a good fit for his scheme on offense, which is supposed to feature bulkier, blocking-oriented tight ends. Sources say the team isn’t set on trading Scheffler, but an offer to their liking could be enough to spark a deal.

Also in the article:
Josh McDaniels finds himself in what could become a disastrous situation with Jay Cutler seemingly determined to force a trade out of Denver, but sources say McDaniels made a major misstep in dealing with his players well before the feud with Cutler even began. We hear McDaniels’ decision to cut LS Mike Leach and replace him with former Patriots LS Lonie Paxton did not sit well within the locker room and should not be underestimated as a move that damaged McDaniels’ credibility. Leach, who signed with the Cardinals, had done an outstanding job, by all accounts, over the past seven seasons for the Broncos and had been a good teammate. Word is players viewed the move as unfair and inappropriate, and it led to questions about McDaniels’ leadership ability.

Not really...I think the TE situation for now is OK...although later on possibly. Interesting that there was in effect a 3 team swap on long snappers..Leach to Cardinals, Hodesel to the Pats and Paxton to Denver. I find that McDaniels is having some internal trouble..not as easy as he thought.

there is a new shrieff in town....it's his team his rules....you go Josh

Maybe Scheffler and a 4th or 5th rounder for Watson, Watson is a good blocker but we have Baker now. Watson is on his final year anyways. Scheffler doesn't drop the ball that much.

Maybe he could replace Wendy?

I really can't imagine us doing business with Josh at the moment, though.

Why not?, if BB thinks Scheffler is a better catching TE than Watson and Josh thinks than Scheffler doesn't fit his system, then a trade between them is highly possible.

I misread the title as Scheffter(sp?).

I was thinking what use would he be to us ;)

I imagine that if Scheffler doesn't fit in McDaniels system, he won't fit in ours. Scheffler's an excellent receiving TE, but hasn't been healthy and isn't a good blocker.

I like Floyd Reese, but signing Adam Sheffler would be a coup. He knows everything about everyone in the NFL and would make a great personnel man.

No wonder the Broncos have been mediocre, they are all spoiled whiny brats, maybe Josh needs to clean out the whole house.

Why would we want Scheffler if Josh doesn't want him.

What donkey:

The only think PFT left out was saying, "Let me be clear about this, they hate their coach."

Like it is the highest priority of a coach to keep all the locker room favorites.

Cripes, Parcels made a living by going into a new team and the first year getting rid of the locker room darlings and anyone who did not immediately buy into his system. The first thing Belichick did was cut a third of the team, and then the next year cut even more.

I doubt Leach was a bigger locker room favorite than Lawyer Milloy.

Don't confuse grumbling in the locker room with losing. Sometimes you need to shake things up, and you ALWAYS need to get the guys you think will win for you.

Cripes, I think McDaniels was an awful OC. I can't believe I'm defending him again. But this is a silly idea, that cutting a long snapper will cost McDaniels the team.

If Scheffler doesn't fit into McDaniels' system, he will not fit into our's any better.

Agreed. BB will probably use his first rounder on a TE... it's been a few years since the last time he did that and he might want to go back to his roots.

To be honest, I don't see TE as a huge need. Even the year the Pats had no WRs, the didn't exploit their "talented TE duo". Baker as a blocker is fine. Pass the ball to the president of Rand University or his "Robin" Welker. Maybe get Brady to undress Urlacker again as a runner. Frig Adam Scheffter and his spot on reporting.

No disrespect to McDaniels. He did well here and deserves a chance and almost anywhere else I would wish him luck, BUT of the few teams I could never root for in this case, I hope he fails miserably because that would mean anguish for Broncos fans. :D

Why bother ? How about looking into a Jon Runyan at RT for cheap money to upgrade Kazcur and give us some OLine depth. Sheffler is the last guy we need after the Chris Baker pickup.

Last guy ? I dunno... let me think. Pacman, Stallworth, Derek Anderson, Deion, Neil Patrick Harris,... this thing writes itself.

That's got nothing to do with it.

This whole Cutler/Scheffler drama is being orchestrated by Bus Cook. He's trying to capitalize on Cutler's Pro Bowl season (Cassel had better numbers, FWIW), and on Scheffler's 16.1 YPR. If Cutler doesn't fare well in Josh's system, his numbers could decline. Scheffler's concerned about losing PT to Graham, who was coached by Josh in NE. Strike while the iron is hot. That seems to be what Cook is doing. Any deals for these players will have to accompany contract extensions. If a trade can't be worked out, then shoot your way out of town. This is the whiny season in the NFL. Once camps start, that's when the bluffs are called and all bets are off.

That said, I'd love seeing Scheffler, but with the role of TE diminished in the Pats offense in 2008, the compensation and money would make such a deal unlikely.
