Eagles trade WR Lewis to Patriots

We give up this year's fifth rounder and we get Lewis and a 2010 pick, which has not been announced.

The Patriots have officially announced the acquisition of receiver Greg Lewis from the Philadelphia Eagles.

The team announced that it has sent an undisclosed 2009 draft choice to Philadelphia. In return, the Patriots announced that they have acquired Lewis and an undisclosed 2010 draft pick from the Eagles.

A league source said today that the 2009 draft choice that the Patriots traded is a fifth-rounder, although that has not been confirmed by either team.

Ouch a 5th rounder? I'd rather draft a punter with that pick... But this is a conditional 2010 pick right?

My understanding is that the Patriots gave Philly a 2009 5th round pick, and the Eagles owe the Patriots a 2010 pick, which is conditional on Lewis making the team and/or performing.

If Lewis gets cut, the Pats might get a fifth rounder back a year later. With 12 draft picks this year, why not?

Mark my words, when all is said and done - Matt Gutierrez will have a better career than Greg Lewis. :D

Why are people flipping out? The guy's stats are comparable to Gaffney's before he came here. Stick him w Brady, he might be a decent #3, at the very least, competition at the spot, to which I expect some drafted wideouts and or a vet to be added.

Hmm. I understand the logic I suppose. I just don't see Lewis being worth a 5th. A 6th or 7th maybe. We could have gotten a Huber or a Gano to compete with Hanson in round 5.

I hear the words "draft" and "punter" next to each other and get all twitchy.

LOL, I agree. But Hanson seriously needs some competition. Hanson's punts make me 'twitchy'.

I guess it's a pretty good trade. I really don't know this guy but we barely give anything up and BB might see a hole for him to fill, so i like the move. On the flip side, the Eagles didn't value him that high apparently, so we shouldn't expect to much out of him.

For all the whining this board does about BSPN, it's obvious too much thinking is based on what's on BSPN.

Sorry, don't buy the Eagles receivers suck thinking.

McNabb has a 10 year habit of making receivers look bad. This guy has good size and will do much better with TB.

I guess everyone forgets McNabb got Gaffney cut. Maybe we should ask Jabar who is the problem in Philly.

I like it alot. If he comes in and fits and you can count on him to give you what he has in the past then you have a 4th WR for little and with Brady throwing to him and a new system maybe he steps up his game a little. If he fails apparently all you lose is a 5th this year but get it next year. With the number of picks we have this year we were likely to move some to next year anyway. I like it.

If that's the case, I think this is a great trade. Best case scenario, he steps up like when Gafney came to the Pats. Worst case scenario, he gets cut and we get a pick next year. With all the picks we have, I think it is likely BB makes an additional small trade this offseason.

I like this move over any other today.

Over the Springs pick up? Why?

We gots Randy and Wes on WR crew - We gots not so much on the CB posse.

I think Lewis is going to surprise us and be very productive. Maybe 30 catches or more.

The Eagles' official website notes that Lewis had two of his best games against the Patriots.

Philadelphia Eagles

Note: I got this via Reiss

Lewis is not nearly as bad as some of you guys are making him out to be. He has some talent, and we got him cheap. Sounds good to me.
