Reiss: Galloway visited

Re: Reiss: Galloway visited.

???

I thought Stallworth's poor route running and aversion to blocking was exactly why he lost snaps to Gaffney over the course of the season two years ago when they were on the roster at the same time.

Stallworth looks good after he catches the ball- nice speed and stride, but he remains tremendously overrated, as every one of his coaches seems to quickly find out.

If Galloway can still bring the speed with crisp route running and blocking at a reasonable price then why not??

I thought Stallworth's blocking was pretty good while he was with the Pats. I agree with people's assessment of his route running, but I also thought his hands weren't that great when he was moving full speed. If he wasn't stopped, he had a tendency to bobble the ball, when he didn't just drop it. His RAC was amazing though.

Don't forget, Stallworth started losing playing time to Gaffney the latter part of that year. I think that because of a few key drops in bad situations, Gaffney's value is pretty under rated by a lot of fans. He fit in very well in Pats system.

Re: Reiss: Galloway visited.

This isn't an attack against you, I've just noticed recently people have mentioned "Player X" can't be a #3. Wouldn't it be best if the Pats put Welker as the slot, and then put someone like Galloway as an outside burner? Obviously this would only be the case in 3 WR, or spread formations, as I assume Welker would be in for the 2 WR formations.

Stallworth was our #3, and he's in the same burner mold as Galloway.

Absolutely correct, which is why Gaffney wasn't ideal opposite Moss. The optimal formation is one which can threaten every area of the field. That results in:
1) The defense spread thin, allowing for open areas to throw into (or run through)
2) Brady being able to read the safeties and better identify matchups
3) Defenses being forced to stay in nickel/dime formations which get starters off the field and "backups" playing a larger role

Several threads recently have talked about "route trees" and receivers making adjustments. We need someone opposite Moss that isn't running a "route shrub".

Re: Reiss: Galloway visited.

Can he play OLB? :D

I see Galloway in the same mold as moss minus the height. He is a true #1 WR with the speed to get open deep. As for a #3, I would want someone who is more of a possession receiver and not a big play threat. Unless the goal is to break passing yardage records, then i'm all for it :)

I think the opposite is needed. Welker is the ultimate possession receiver. We need someone who can stretch the field opposite Moss. Galloway could be the guy if he's still got the speed. This would be a very interesting signing if the money is right.

The Bills will court Joey Galloway for a free agent visit on Thursday.
The Patriots let Galloway leave their facility Wednesday without a contract, which probably tells us something about what the 37-year-old has left.

Just great :singing:
