Times have changed and the money to top 10 draftees has gotten insane. It wasn't comparatively speaking back in 2001. The drafting of several top ten QB's in the interim with Tom Condon or his ilk as agents has driven the top of the rookie draft market to ludicrous levels. The Patriots are a value based outfit and they really like their late first round values in all but the weakest drafts. This draft is said to be pretty deep. We have a late first, three seconds and two thirds...plus lots of fodder with which to maneuver those picks in relation to our own value groupings within the top 100 projected draft talents.

And we've got money for sexy FA's if we want 'em. And to retain our own home developed talent if we wish to.

I would not be surprised if Waters comes back in this deal. The Pats have the cap room and he wants out of KC. It's an upgrade over Hochstein/Neal.

top draft picks aren't that expensive..........mayo at #10 is a 2.2M cap hit

What would be brilliant would be if Pioli and BB traded favors:

The (big) favor to BB being that KC pretends to be willing to pay high to land Cassell.

The (big) favor to Pioli being that Vrabel is traded at a price reasonably reflective of his on-field contributions. (It's obvious why that's a big favor, right?)
