Unless you are getting a better alternative for him, this trade makes no sense.....and no offense, Woods and Crable 'aint it. Serioulsy, the man was the mike, played outside and inside and was a veteran leader. He was one of the most verstaile players on defense - next to Thomas. So, who are we getting to REPLACE him? And please, do not say Woods and Crable. Give me a break.

this is why people don't pull a mangini and run to a division rival.........a guy like vrabel can move willingly to another organization and it can be a win-win-win

vrabel gets some extra money and helps instill an philosophy that in my opinion there is a shortage of in NFL lockerrooms....

he's done enough here and there is useful work for him to do for an old friend in another place

If they are clearing space for Peppers, Cassel has to be dealt first. Cassel could be part of a larger trade with KC, or there could be a deal in principle to ship Cassel somewhere. Whatever happens, I think there is MUCH MORE news to come out in the next few hours today...

Similar age as Vrabes' both can contribute about the same on their respective sides of the ball. Gonzo wants out and this would make alot of sense to help Pioli stamp his mold on the Chiefs.

Vrab's for Gonzo straight up would be a = to a KC raping by the Pats. Pioli to smart for that. Much as I'd love to see Gonzo here. Highly unlikely. Plus, that side of the trade (gonzo) would be bigger then Vrable. I.e. the headline reads "Tony G traded to the Patriots" not vice versa.

Woods wont be starting. He is only good in some packages and thats why they resigned him. I expect a big splash of a player to replace Vrabel. Patriots have something brewing and just waiting to see what will happen!! What an offseason!!

If this is part of a bigger deal involving Cassel then I'd have to imagine it starts with the #3 overall pick, because I can't imagine BB letting Vrabel go w/o a plan in place to replace him on the roster. Aaron Curry? :singing:

Crable was IRed, yes, but given the timing it seemed very likely that it was a "you're not going to contribute much this year, but take your time off to bulk up and, with another TC, you could be a solid depth guy by next year" move. It would be far from the first time that the Pats have done something like that. I don't expect Crable to be the starter next year or anything- I just think that this signals that there's a good chance that he'll see significant time next year, and could be on track to become a starter down the line.

It's already been confirmed that the deal is for draft picks. If it was for Gonzalez, it would have come out right away. Vrabel has confirmed himself that he's been traded, by Reiss.

relax. a 5th round compensation is more than fair. vrabel is on the flip side of his career and his cap number was exorbinant based on his on-field ability. its a fine trade. we dont need gonzalez. we need cap space and good, young players.
