Thomas is as clutch as it gets.
This is a Texas Longhorns Season recap video and it's a great piece of editing and a great piece of history. Thomas' big plays are all over this video.
This should give you an idea of the type of player he is.

I'm happy for the horns, (used to live in Austin for 9 years), but there's a lot to wade through there trying to find some David Thomas.

Most of the clips were of Vince Young and the Horns RB Charles. That guy is fast though and he's only a 1st year? He could turn out to be quite a player down the road.

All I can really say from the clips is that Thomas has really good hands. He catches the ball in traffic, and he works his way back to the QB. So he could be a real nice security blanket. The question is can he get open against pro defenders and how quickly can he pick up the Pats pro offense.

Yeah, Thomas isn't exactly featured in that clip, but it does show him making a few great tough plays.

He does have great hands, but he's all about the intangibles. He doesn't quit, he's tough and has a huge heart. He just strikes me as the type of guy who'll stick around and produce in the NFL.

I know that there have been questions about him and I'm just here to say that there's REAL hope with Thomas. Physically he's very solid, but he's also completely clutch--and that's something you can't teach.
Anyway, I think you got a real good one.

The reviews from the Pats' minicamps so far for Thomas have been great. The media often singles him out to say how good he looked, and that they woudn't be suprised if he turns out to be the steal of the draft. I've liked everything I've seen of him on the field so far, but something that didn't get tons of attention but really impressed me was when Thomas first arrived in New England he said he wanted to make himself as coachable as possible. This shows great maturity for a rookie and that he is definitely a Patriots type guy.

BTW meanhorn, thanks for the link

it will be interesting to find out the kind of player he can play with. you know the times he comes inside on a route and the tackler takes him out at the knee/ankle? that will be a massive chest-high blast from an nfl safety.
maybe he doesn't want to deal with getting hit like that 10 times a game. it doesn't make his college career any less outstanding. many excellent ccollege players turn out not to "fit" in the nfl.

Not sure I understand. Are you saying that NFL safeties blast TEs? Safeties give up about 40 pounds to TEs.

Why do you think he won't like getting hit and therefore will not make an NFL player? Just curious, as I haven't heard of him being afaid of getting hit before.
