The Official 'Trade Brady' Debate Thread - Do Not Start Another One

Who the fahk is we? Patriot Nation? Then I am part of that "we", meathead

And being a fan of the Patriots, I can be opinionated, and choose my own path of thought. I do not have to fall in line with what you say, gimme a break.
Brady blew his knee out and suffered a rare infection to a wound that needed to have an even rarer repeat surgery to be drained, and treated with intravenous antibiotics. Thats not like any other knee surgery I have EVER heard about.

I have had knee surgery, by Dr. Tom Gill (the Patriots team doctor) and my knee has never been the same since, and neither has anyone I have met who has had knee surgery, sure they function, but the knee neveris quite the same again. Argue all you want killa, Im callin the forrest for the trees.

For what its worth I hope they put bionics in Brady's knee, or fused his ligaments with flubber so that they never snap apart like a rubber band again.
Shoot, I wish they fused his whole skeletal frame with adamantium.

I am not wishing anything bad on Brady, godspeed on his recovery.

But if a douche-bag like Matt Cassel can take us to a Super Bowl victory, anyone can,
so trade 'em both and get as many number ones as possible.

(and for all the matt cassel fans, if he throws 400yds tomorrow I will apologize, I have never really thought much of #16, I liked Gutierrez better)

:blahblah: :blahblah:

Pathetic doesn't begin to describe your brand of fandom.

:attention:

Just because I have never put it on the record anywhere else on this dumb debate, I would not trade Brady and stick with Matt Cassel. No matter what all those "experts" are saying nowadays about the "system," Brady is a once-in-a-life-time player who is not a scrambler and should have a bunch of good years left in the tank. Matt has been great, but I wouldn't part with Brady under these circumstances. If it was five years from now and Brady was on a slide (ala Drew Bledsoe when this situation occurred before) maybe I would feel differently, but I say, no way, no how.

Something tells me that someday Matt Cassel will be the Vet Back-up we're all clamoring for because he knows the system. And I don't mean that facetiously.

Yeah, exactly. That statement about 18 months is either from 1989 or from someone who isn't a doctor AND didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

Brayd will be starting for the New England Patriots Kickoff Weekend 2009 and will be as effective as he was before he got hurt.

Yeah, you guys are all fans and all optimists. I'd like to believe too but... I try to be both a fan and a realist. Don't forget that Tom Brady did not play virtually all preseason as he spent 8 months recovering from a simple ... ANKLE SPRAIN ... and NOT a major knee surgery in 2008.

Sure BB/SP can sign a vet QB cheaper, maybe even one who went to a Super bowl too. I have a question for y'all. How well did ex-superbowl veteran QB, Brad Johnson do, when
Tony Romo got hurt? 'Nuff said.

Brady's going to rehab and be fine. If Palmer and McNabb could do it so could he.

Anything I tried to say earlier in this thread had more to do with whether Matt Cassell is good enough to quarterback a team with a potentially killer defense to a super bowl. I think he probably is, but past "for the sake of argument" territory, it's probably a horrible idea to trade the best quarterback of all time.

I like the reality expressed by you, yourself who has actually gone through a Knee surgery. All these other optimistic, wishful, and hoping fans, just don't understand.

For a QB to be FULLY recovered he needs the abilty to shuffle, and to dance, and to accelerate to start a run or avoid a tackle; he needs the ability to side step. These are all the things that are the LAST things to come back after knee surgery.

Sure you can walk in a straight line sooner, but that has little to do with being an EFFECTIVE QB, nevermind the GOAT that fans want...

I know you were being sarcastic with your last comment, so I won't criticize.:banned:

Knee surgeries are not all the same, the recovery times vary, and the times vary by person as well as by procedure. Unless someone here is secretly a personal confidant of Brady or his doctor, everyone is just spouting off about something about which they are mostly ignorant.

As for the rarity, infection in these cases is rare, but several Browns players have had staph, just as a reminder. And, when the knee infection happens:

Dr. Williams said. Most infections in knee surgeries involve S. epidermidis, a relatively benign organism in normal skin flora.

He said the repeated washouts along with IV and oral antibiotics are the standard of care when infections do occur

Ignorance is easily cured in the internet age, if people will only look and double check the sources.

Until Matt Cassell wins SB XXXXIII, I don't want to have this conversation.

You people realize "TheRazor" is more than likely some troll from KSK or Deadspin, right?

This may be the dumbest thread ever.

It's amazing how the opinions here ignore the obvious fact of uncertainty, at all times, for every player in the league.

Everybody argues that it's FACT that Brady won't be 100% next year, or it's FACT that he'll be 100% just fine and dandy opening day 2009. Everybody on the other side argues that it's FACT that Cassel is just as good, and it's FACT that Brady won't be the Brady we're used to ever again.

The only fact is risk. All courses are frought with risk (as they always are.) It was FACT that Moss would be a locker room cancer, and it was FACT that he would put up record-breaking numbers... in that particular case, one turned out to be true. More often the truth is in the middle.

That is to say, we have downside risks in each course of action. the Pats' FO responsibility is to optimize their returns and minimize their downside risk. They got it right in 2001, when they had no intention of benching a guy making what Drew made. "Getting it right" this time may involve a variety of moves, but to me it seems like franchising is the move.

Nice problem to have. It'll be an even nicer problem to have if Cassel continues to grow. I think this likely; he's playing for tens of millions of dollars at this point. If that ain't motivation, I don't know what is.

Re: The Official Trade Brady Thread

Ian - I love this site dearly, but stupid threads like this should be relegated to the Practice Squad.

Also, the post from Lifer seem to have a similar ring to the ones done by PatsLifer. Coincidence? *shrug* Either way, the post have been friggin ridiculous.

It always makes me cringe when you or Deus or Mo Lewis or Wildo7 or.....make arrogant judgements about the loyalty or knowledge of other users, but (with complete deference to Ian who is just vying for control) you may have a point here.

QFT - Couldn't agree more. Especially what's in bold.

First of all, I just want to say that this is the dumbest thread ever. Some of you want to trade possibly the greatest QB ever, who is still probably in his prime, for two #1 draft picks.

Second of all, how the hell are we going to pay Matt Cassel, two #1 draft picks, and possibly two round 2 draft picks?

Third, Cassel has played well, but I assume teams are going to start treating him like a real QB and not putting 8 guys in the box. Randy Moss and Wes Welker are making Cassel look better than he is.

Dumb thread,
Moss took less to play with brady , dan koppan his buddy took less to play in NE, bru took less to stay here romeo/magini would love to get him for 1 million.

this is a thread that stays take less to stay here and we will not take care of you and also if you think you will play with brady we will package you too.

It may be dumb to talk about trading Brady, but I don't think it's dumb to consider keeping Cassel until Brady proves he's healthy.

I just don't see an organization as cautious as this one letting either of these quarterbacks go until they see what happens with Brady's knee.

If Brady comes back healthy, there's no way you trade him. If he's not the same guy after his rehab, then you have a decision to make and in that case they'd have to consider keeping Cassel -- especially if he keeps playing like he has. But that's a big if, and Brady not recovering is also a big if.

If the Patriots win today the trade Brady crowd will grow louder.

I just hope they trade him to the Bears. They are my second favorite team.
