The refs just handed Indy the game

Re: The refs just handed Indy the game.

I think NE had some pretty favorable spots too. Spotting the ball is something that happens on most plays, and it's not always an easy call to make. Some are going to go your way, some are not, and some are spot on. The thing is, some of those spots are a lot higher profile than others, and with such a small number, uneven distribution will happen frequently in the high profile spots. It's a tough thing to do at full speed. That being said, there are sometimes just really bad spots. I thnk that if a ref is unsure about the spot, they should be able to ping the officials in the booth and bounce it off them.

Before the penalty, how do they say Faulk only got 8 yards on first down?? It looked like he landed right on the yellow line, and then they line up with 2nd and 2 on the screen... I was so confused. If it was first down, or 2nd and inches, it's a totally different game.

Re: The refs just handed Indy the game.

I thought it was stupid on Thomas' part. The play was well over. Doesn't matter if it was blatant or what his intention was. He handed the refs the call.

There were too many missed opportunities, play- and coaching-wise, by the Pats for me to blame the loss on that call.

Re: The refs just handed Indy the game.

The thing is that coach B making that challange put the refs on a national spotlight. That goes into the subconscious mind. It seemed early the refs were going to let them play and let the players decide the game. Well, look how that turned out.

For once I would like to see Indy and Peyton beat us in a close game without the aid of a call. This is the second time it has happened.

It has a lot to do with the role of the good guy bad guy in the national spotlight. I just wish Coach had trusted his team and gone with the flow and let it ride out.

All in all Coach B is a genius who i am glad we have. Yet no one is beyond reproach. I hope he takes something from it. i saw him do this just one before when he didn't let Gostowski make that kick.

It sucks Vinetari had to make that kick.

Re: The refs just handed Indy the game.

The Thomas call was the least questionable call, wasn't it? I know that in slow-mo, it's hard to tell just how long the incident occurs after the play was finished, but it looked automatic to me.

How about the dang spot of the ball on the same play? I was so certain it was a 1st that I was cheering despite the flag.
Vlade Divac and Bill Laimbeer would both have been proud of the flop by the Colts player. Like another poster said, there were a lot of uncalled infractions going and then they go ahead throw the flag on that one. It's pretty tempting to say that the league abhors the Colts being ousted form the playoff chase this early. Anybody else mention that Madden and Michaels said they saw nothing on the replay worthy of a flag?

Come on, dont be one of those guys. the refs did a good job. Thomas made a bonehead move.

They called it because it happened two feet in front of the ref, that gets called 9 out of 10 times when its right in front of the ref. The ones that dont get called is usually because its not right in front of the ref. I was swearing at the ref last night too but after sleeping on it and seeing the replay I cant blame the ref.

Yes, but it is football. It's not as though he blasted him in the head or the family jewels. He barely touched the guy.

Yes, but it's kind of like an NBA game in the last minute. The frequency of uncalled stuff goes way up because they don't want the game decided on a ticky tac call. Did it look like it warranted an unnecessary roughness penalty on the replay? My DVR was acting up and I couldn't get a good look at it. What I did see looked like Thomas kind of yanked on him, and then he flopped down. Unnecessary roughness on a late hit used to be a very blatant, very rough hit.

Yeah, the refs are in the bag for the Colts to keep them in the playoff race. That's why we were penalized out the wazoo VS GB and Tenn right?

That's why after the Colts stopped the Jags on 4th down on their final drive as time was running out the refs threw a late flag (2-3 seconds after the play ended) and gave the Jags a first down which they used to get into field goal range and win the game as time ran out? All that was because the refs want to keep the Colts in the playoff race?

Come on. Give this refs nonsense a rest. Every team gets penalties called on them and of course they seem like crap calls if they go against your team. But it happens to EVERY team.

I don't watch all the Indy games, so I have no idea about all the plays that you are talking about. But I agree with your first statement:

"Yeah, the refs are in the bag for the Colts to keep them in the playoff race."

Oh please. I have not seen the refs help us out all season long.

Peyton owned the Pats last night.

Well, since you've admitted you're ignorant I guess I don't have to say it. Oh wait, I just did.

Take it easy there Rosco, I was just playin' with ya. No need to go all name calling and all - You guys won, hold your head up and be proud.

Yes the refs handed the game to Colts. Why?

The refs forced the following.

1. Gaffney did a poor imitation of the wide-eyed Caldwell

2. BB to burn all timeouts before 12 min in the 4th Q

3. Asked BB to run and stop the 4th & Inches play and forced him to go for a FG

4. Asked BB not to go to Moss for more than 3 times since Indy is playing DBs picked of the street (One DB was selling Newspapers till wednesday and was covering Moss on most plays :D)

5. Asked Pats Defense to not even put any pressure on Peyton.

I could go on & on.

Coming to that call, that one is correct. It happened right in front of the official and will not go without a flag. The penalty is 15 yards for those type of illeagal hits. There is no discount on the yards for the hit being mild or medium :D ( I had to say this since some said the hit was not like Hines Ward hit. The punishment is for after the whistle ; where as Hines ward hit is legal but was fined for the risk of injury).

I admit, despite the score I never thought Indy would pull off that game. They couldn't get New Englands offense off the field to save their lives and even with BB's coaching gaffs, and he did make them, that penalty was a dagger in the heart for NE. With that being said I agree with the Patriots playing "not to lose" and think it's crazy and poor gameplanning to not be taking shots for Moss in that game. Indy's corners had no experience and if Moss couldn't beat those guys for 6 who can he beat? I think maybe BB was thinking ball control because he has no confidence in his own secondary and wanted to keep Manning off the field, but the Colts haven't been the same this year. The Patriots still look solid and have a good shot at winning the East, despite not having Brady, but I think they have to make Moss a bigger part of their offense. They need to remind Cassel and the staff that the ghostly imprint in between their legs is where their balls used to be and they need to start using them again. Throw the damn deep ball and let the best deep threat in NFL history go up and make a play for you.

Enough venting about a Pats loss by a Miami fan.

What a joke of a thread. The refs handed indy the game? Wow, what a bunch of homers.

And the Rams can complain all they want about the refs without repercussion?

The thing is the refs where put in the spotlight and when it comes to the Pats in recent history that hasn't gone well.

The last game I remember the refs helping the Pats goes back to the Raiders.

Thing is we are now the bad guys of the league. Let the game be decided by the players is all I'm saying.

It was a great game, one in which we still might have lost. I just hate seeing a call decide the outcome of a game in any sport in any case. Unless it is so blatently obvious, it can't be ignored, which this wasn't.

It seems New England fans are becoming so vanilla they can't complain anymore because they are scared of the backlash.

Pretty sad when the players say they didn't like the officiating and the fans can't back them up.

To me that sucks. Screw being politically correct!!
