Something fishy about the whole thing

I have a relative who asserts that when Belichick met with Goodell to await punishment last year, Goodell told BB, "I'll destory the tapes, you can go 16-0, but, as part of our deal, no way can you win the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is out. Just see to it that you don't win the Super Bowl."

Let's see...

Brady's knee was hit by a defender named Pollard. We recently cut a TE named Pollard. TE is the NYSE code for TECO Energy, Inc. TECO's stock is currently sitting at 16.2, which is how many points per week Brett Favre got in fantasy last year... Favre plays for the Jets!

IT'S ALL THE JETS FAULT!

Now that's what I call good investigative journalism work!!!

:D:D:D!!!!!!!!!!!

Patriots win but with out Brady
Colts Lose
Chargers Lose

The NFL is setting it all up for Lord Favre.

The only thing fishy is your underwear. Now go take a shower, change that underwear and then come back fresh and clean. Just kidding, of course. I think you meant to say uncanny, not fishy.

now I'm not all Mulder and Scully and fake moon landing normally but something feels fishy about this entire thing. The Pats play Cassel this pre-season more than his entire college and pro careers combined and keep him on the roster despite most of the "pundits" and messageboard analysts think he's going to get cut for the younger (more promising?) Gootz; even though Brady doesn't look in any way injured whenever he's seen on/off the field. They also keep 5 backs on the roster, which most view as a bit unusual, seemingly setting up for a more ground based attack this season. The only thing anyone talks about all pre-season is the backup QB position...more backup QB talk than anytime in history it seems.

then we have the first game of the season and Brady is gone, most likely for the season, before the second qtr even starts.....just feels fishy for some reason

So the Patriots deliberately acquired more RBs and held on to Cassell so that they could pay off a Chiefs player to take out Brady for the year? This way they look SO brilliant for building up their RBs and backup QB?? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard... and I've heard a lot of stupid things on this board.

Belichick to Brady: "Okay Tom, now let's go over this again. You stand still and let one of their guys mangle your leg. It'll only hurt for a few seconds before the endorphins kick in." :p

I think the only way to prove that there has been a conspiracy here would be for me to travel to the world's ultra luxury sun soaked destinations and have a look-see if Tom is hanging out with Gisele, sans knee brace/ ACL repair surgery scar. It'll be a tall task, and I'm not exactly rich enough to pull this off, but I'll do my best, for the sake of us all.

You're on to something alright: Ray Ventrone behind center on Sunday.

Your mom dropped you on your head when you were a baby, right?

Here's what happened, a recorded meeting from April 10th, 2008, 16 days before the draft:

Cigarette-smoking man (CSM): Mulder is about to reveal that Brady is a human-alien hybrid, part of the plan to colonize the Earth on December 22, 2012.

Bill Belichick (BB): Take Mulder out!

CSM: He is more useful to us alive than dead.

BB: What the hell does that even mean? What has he ever done for us? You have killed countless people, including Mulder's father, Scully's sister, Deep Throat, JFK, Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy. Why the hell would you have any qualms about having Mulder killed?!

CSM takes a puff

BB stares

CSM: What if Brady were to get "injured" in their first game of the season?

BB: Umm, and leave us with Cassel?

CSM: Isn't the draft coming up?

BB: Frick you. Brady is the one player that is not interchangable on this team. I won't do it. Take Mulder out!

CSM: Mulder is my son.

BB: So was Agent Spender, and you shot him in the freaking face!

CSM: What if I were to tell you that we could guarantee that you will make it to the playoffs? Do you not think we have refs in our pockets. We have information on everyone. Mangina, both Mannings, Tomlinson, you name him. The refs? We own them.

BB: This seems a lot more complicated than killing Mulder.

CSM: A dead martyr is much worse than a live nuisance.

BB: Umm, as I said you killed JFK and MLK, so the logic of your argument is unsound.

CSM: A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

BB: OK, now you're just being a dink. How about we kidnap Scully and use that to bribe Mulder? You did that in Season One...umm...I mean in 1994.

CSM: And we see how well that worked? It only pushed Mulder to work harder to uncover our efforts.

BB: Fine. You owe me. Next year we get an extra first-round pick, and you have to give us some more Brady-calibre hybrids to ensure we reach our goal. The Perfect Season. The Comeback Tour.

CSM: Deal. Mulder goes down in the first. Next year, you will have your Perfection. You might want to modify your draft picks accordingly. For instance, an early-round QB choice?

Anyone? I spend 20 minutes on that stupid script. :)

You are very noble sir.

BB paid the KC Chiefs under the table. This whole thing? A sham to make sure Brady's shoulder and foot are completely healthy for the '09 season. Plus, we may get a top 10 or 15 pick to add more youth to the defense. Great huh? ;)

You are the biggest moron in the history of morons.

As an X Files and Pats fan you hit the nails on the heads.:D

Thank you!

I realize now that whole post is "inside" jokes from the show.

The only fishy thing here is your use of the word "despite." BB did something "depite" what message board people thought would happen. Wow, that's a first  Or fishy because you think BB chooses backup QBs by age, and the fact that Gute was 2 years younger means he is the mandatory choice?

They also keep 5 backs on the roster, which most view as a bit unusual,
5 backs is pretty much standard in the NFL. The Pats usually keep 4 on the roster, which is what they did. Maroney-Morris-Jordan-Evans.

If they don't cut a back by tonight, then they will have 5. Still, this is hardlly the thing to start a conspiracy around. 5 RBs on the roster? Wooooo, think: they are all downhill runners, downhill, like htey were running down a grassy knoll....

then we have the first game of the season and Brady is gone, most likely for the season, before the second qtr even starts.....just feels fishy for some reason
Fishy because BB made a personnel decision that surprised us as usaul, fishy because the Pats played the backup QB for most of the preseason as usual, or fishy because they had 4 RBs on the roster as usual?

We really need negative star award capability. I mean it. Seriously.
