How about Jackie Maitland? They got him from the Colts. Like Kapp, he came from a good team, so I figured he'd bring some of that goodness with him.

He didn't.

Has anybody mentioned old friend Honor Jackson?

Whoever pulled back Eugene Profit deserves a pat on the back.

I know we're looking for obscure Pats, but I notice others like Pete Brock have been mentioned, which brings to mind the great Sam Hunt, a member of the Pats first-ever 4-man linebacking team (under Chuck Fairbanks), a tremendous run stuffer in the middle, a clutch guy, and if Sam ever got a hold of the football, look out.

I followed the rules and didn't google anything before posting that. But afterwards I did. A few corrections:

First it was Joe Kapp, not Joe Capp. Second, his career with the Vikings was not great - he played 3 years for them (per pro-football-reference.com), making 1 Pro Bowl. In 1969 he led the Vikings to a 12-2 record and a berth in Super Bowl IV where they lost to Lin Dawson and the KC Chiefs. Subsequently he was acquired by the Patriots for the 1970 season, but he completed only 44% of his passes and only 3 TDs vs 17 INTs! That was the last season of his NFL career.

He was indeed succeeded as the Patriots starting QB by #1 overall draft pick Jim Plunkett, who started all 14 games in 1971.

If you ever saw him throw a spiral, you'd think a pro bowl and Super Bowl were great. He was tough as nails, but I could throw a better pass than he did.

But he got it done.

I used to root for special teamers to crack the lineup. Johnny Rembert was a good one. Had a few good seasons at LB, I think.

Rod McSwain never quite made it as a CB. Good on ST, though.

Derick Colours was a good 3rd down back for a while. Reminded me of Troy Brown but wasn't as good. Was a RB but too small to get much done there.

I couldn't remember his first name as I remember some of our statrters went down and he played great for a year or so.

I remember him becoming a real good starter. After googling, it seems he was a top player with nine seasons and two pro bowls.

Apparently, Our excellent LB core delayed his ascension to the starting role, not his ability. He used to rock 'em and sock 'em. I remember that.:D

Tony Carter, Fullback

And how about our punter for the 2003 game vs Miami, Brooks Bernard I think was his name.

Trevor "the fighting Morman" Matich I believe he was drafted as a center in the late eightees

Wasn't he drafted in Drew's class? I think he was supposed to be Bledsoe's wepon of the future.

He dropped a lot of balls and was more or less out of favor by the 96 season, though he was on the team for the Super Bowl run. He was surpassed by Glenn, Jefferson, Troy Brown, and even guys like Hasan Graham and Detrich Jells.

He did lead the team in receiving yardage in the car wreck that was the 95 season. However to be surpassed by so many guys the next year shows exactly what he was.

Yeah, that was w/ the pick that we got from the 49ers. As I remember, the Niners used our pick for this guy Jerry Rice...

Some sort of trade involving him. Anybody?

I just remember we came out on the bad end of something because he wasn't that good. I think.

here's a curious one:

Rich Gannon

Looking back, I think we traded out of the spot where Jerry Rice was picked for Matich who lasted 4 years.

Somehow I don't remember him ever being our roster. When was he with us?

technically not a 'player'

we drafted him and then traded him to Minnesota when he made it absolutely clear about his feelings about being converted to a DB

more of an anecdote than a player, but a curious one I think

Props.....

How about Brian Hollaway? Wasn't he the guy who lined up next to Hannah and went to the probowl mostly because of Hannah.

Leon Gray was before him. He and Hannah had the same agent and held out together one year. The next training camp he was shipped off to the Oilers for a 1st rd. pick(& a 6th). Wound up to be the end of the "good" Patriots teams of the '70's. We picked Vagas Ferguson w/ the 1st.
