Theres a direct link between OL spenders and January teams .. but yeah, why pay for OL if it worked so great with scraps lately..
In almost 30 years that he acted as de facto GM (incl CLE) Bill never had an opportunity to pick in the top 5.
He never gave himself that opportunity with his continuous, relentless success.
He loved those players, worked them out, craved to coach them, sometimes signed them much further down...
In a series of bad decisions by everyone @ Patriots over the last 3 years this is the worst and most cynical.

Exactly. Even if it was coming this is as bad as it gets. Getting rid of one of the few corners in the league that can actually cover for zero compensation in November is just another example of malpractice.

Agreed. Worse rosters not to mention organizations turned it around quickly before on less capital.
Pats had every opportunity to make a solid team this year but bad OL/O decisions predictably took much of the toll.
Id argue part of the injury situation comes also from bad roster management...
This move completes the great OL checkers strategy BB employed for this season:
1. Instead of signing an actual NFL starter at void & critical tackle position (with 5-6 options available)
2. He decided to sign 3 backups - for combined higher 2023 cap hit !
