You're right. It is pathetic free agency. This was a perfect offseason to turn short-term talent into long-term talent that would survive the rebuild. Sneed is just the latest example. At least one of Godchaux, Wise, or Jones should have been replaced. Judon, Andrews, and Bentley should have...
Is Maye a potential Herbert, Allen, or Bledsoe? Is Daniels a potential Jackson, Hurts, or Mayfield? I would pick Daniels as the better QB in year 1 or 2, but in the longer term, I lean toward Maye. However, he needs to sit out this first year. This pink hat hasn't changed his mind.
Outside of LT Smith, I don't want our team to spend any real money on older, savvy veterans. This team has to focus on 2025 and 2026! Please sign younger blue chips anywhere we can get them. We can fill the roster holes in June after the draft. There are so many great defensive players...
After the JJSS fiasco, teams won't sign Bourne to more than the minimum until he shows he is fully healed. I'm afraid his time has passed for him to be a long-term answer at WR.
I want the Pats to get younger and to get them into long-term contracts. I would trade older veterans for picks and sign no one over 28 to no more than a minimum contract. Holes on the roster are secondary right now. We need to build the base.
If Williams or Maye don't fall, I would take Harrison and trade up for McCarthy. I want a QB who can accurately rip it downfield when moved off his spot.
Although I would have preferred Vabrel as a coach, Mayo does give us an advantage in maximizing cap space. Mayo's inside knowledge and player loyalty will let him maximize the roster's cap value. We won't lose anyone worth keeping this offseason.
