Re: Light has the flu

Symptoms

Symptoms of influenza can start quite suddenly one to two days after infection. Usually the first symptoms are chills or a chilly sensation but fever is also common early in the infection, with body temperatures as high as 39 °C (approximately 103 °F). Many people are so ill that they are confined to bed for several days, with aches and pains throughout their bodies, which are worst in their backs and legs.[1]

Common symptoms of the flu such as fever, headaches, and fatigue come from the huge amounts of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines (such as interferon or tumor necrosis factor) produced from influenza-infected cells.[2][47] In contrast to the rhinovirus that causes the common cold, influenza does cause tissue damage, so symptoms are not entirely due to the inflammatory response.[48] Symptoms of influenza may include:

* Body aches, especially joints and throat
* Coughing and sneezing
* Extreme coldness and fever
* Fatigue
* Headache
* Irritated watering eyes
* Nasal congestion
* Nausea and vomiting
* Reddened eyes, skin (especially face), mouth, throat and nose

It can be difficult to distinguish between the common cold and influenza in the early stages of these infections,[2] but usually the symptoms of the flu are more severe than their common-cold equivalents. Research on signs and symptoms of influenza found that the best findings for excluding the diagnosis of influenza were:[49]

This is why people use the term "flu" so loosely. They wouldn't be playing football this year or last if they had the actual flu. It's some sort of bug for which the flu vaccine would have been irrelevant. If Light got the flu, he won't be playing on Sunday.

Re: Lite has the flu

Suppose it's too late to have him lick the door knobs in the visiting locker room...:D :rolleyes:

That would be funny, NEWS FLASH : A New England Patriot was caught Sunday afternoon licking all the door knobs in the visitor's lockeroom, testing confirms the Flu virus on all the door knobs in questions. NFL sanctions the Patriots from playing in the 2008 season.

Re: Light has the flu

Can't these guys afford a flu shot or something?

Re: Lite has the flu

what the eff is it with these players and the flu? Seriously, can't just not get sick before the AFCCG?

By the way, is it the actual "flu" or is it flu -like symptoms. Because the real flu is no joke and most of the time when people say "he had the flu" it's not the real flu. And if it is, it doesn't go away in 3 days, it's a week minimum.

A little Echinacea, some Airborne and a swig of a product EmergenC, and Matt will be back good as new!

Re: Lite has the flu

STATEMENT FROM LEAGUE OFFICE: Biological warfare will NOT be tolerated. A letter was issued to ALL teams in January 2007 after the San Diego Chargers we suspected of the same actions against the New England Patriots after their playoff loss to New England.

I don't care who you are, that's funny.

Re: Light has the flu

Listen, we can beat them with many second stringers. Have faith. Flu or no flu we will win.

So what's the fine for licking doorknobs? Knowing Goodell, it's probably gonna be our 2009 first round pick. :p
So, funny as it may sound, let's just not go there.

Re: Light has the flu

Flu shots protect you against 20% of flu strains. You're still susceptible to about 80% of flu strains in any given year.

In other words, a flu shot is by no means something you can count on.

I have heard a bout of the flu is going around right now, but it's not that serious. More like a stomach bug.

Re: Light has the flu

Do you think all pro athletes get the flu shots from the teams? I wonder if it is in a contract that they need to agree to one?

Re: Light has the flu

It's not Light I'm worried about. It's whoever else catches it and comes down with symptoms saturday night.

Re: Lite has the flu

Honestly, I doubt they actually have the "flu." It's a term that gets thrown around loosely. They probably have a bug that causes "flu-like symptoms." Actual influenza is much more serious than people think which is why getting a shot to vaccinate yourself against it is recommended so heavily.
You do realize it is the symptoms that are causing the problems with weakness and general lack of strength. It is what it is doing, not what you happen to call it.
"He broke his leg."
"No, not reallly. He fractured his leg."
Oh, that's a relief."

Re: Lite has the flu

This may sound extreme, but assuming the body builds up resistance after getting through a cold or flu, would it be out of the question to have players intentionally infected in the off-season?

Yes, intentionally infecting someone with a virus that could potentially kill them is inhumane! Thanks for playing, though, crazy guy!

That's what I was thinking.

Hopefully it doesn't spread!

Damn it!!! Now MAtt Light has the flu!!!!!

Aren't the players and coaches required to, or at least STRONGLY suggested, to all get flu shots in the fall? I just think you don't need the flu to be spreading amongst your team during the playoffs especially when a simple flu shot would prevent this.I remember last year's AFC Champ. game and how we saw an 18 point lead slip away. It was evident the players were exhausted and many were sick with the flu during that game.:mad: I just want to get this AFC Champ. game over with and move on to the SB. Just seems every day brings another surprise. My nerves are shot!!! I need a drink! :beersign:
