Why Does NFL.com List Welker As 5-9?

Every time Tom mentions Wes in a post game interview, he usually makes a joke about how it's hard for the defense to find him since he's only 5'7''. I know they say sometimes an 'official' measurement is off a little bit with some athletes, but why? Never understood that.

i believe the team gives them the INFO... if i was 5' 7" i would say im taller too
