I just posted what I heard on WEEI, I think WEEI counts as news. I am not spreading rumors, just reporting what I have heard. I understand what you mean, I am giving Moss the benefit of the doubt....but ignoring this completely isn't going to help anyone.

They're all reporting from the wbo site.

As much as I hate the story you can't blame the reporter, an affidavit was filed, whether or not the woman filing it was telling the truth will come out but you can't blame a reporter for running with it.

She can report that a "Randy Moss......"

But unless she confirms WHICH Randy Moss it is, she has NO RIGHT continuing her report with stating that it IS the Randy Moss of the NFL.

She has, as of yet, not proven that it is THE Randy Moss of the NFL.

And this is what she needs to clarify.

I locked the original thread because some depraved posters were posting the phone numbers of some of the people involved and were calling them at 1:00am. Patchick and I went back into that thread and eliminated any mention of phone numbers,etc. Then I locked it until this morning if any new developments occurred.

Being that Franco has now been on WEEI in Boston sticking to her story, this is a new development. It may be a development that ensures that she loses every last one of her cubic zirconium jewelry set to a Randy Moss lawsuit, but it is a public development.

And what, if any, is our duty to be responsible Patriots fans? This is not a news site, it's a Patriot FAN site. The LAST thing we want to do is add to a story that may be false.

Let's ask ourselves "Are we helping the Patriots?" If the answer is no, what the hell are we doing?

We are not reporters and this is not a gossip site

True and I guess I would assume(and we all know where that gets me) that any reporter that would go on, not only their radio station, but Boston's, and say it is the Pat's Moss would be damn sure of her facts but we're just as guilty if we denegrate her without knowing the facts as she would be by reporting this if she doesn't have the facts.

And as far as I'm concerned about having a thread about it...it's a messageboard which to me is a 21 Century watercooler. If we don't like the conversation we can walk away. No need to get personal about it.

Let's just assume this story is false. Here we are building lengthy threads discussing it and thereby making the story/rumor even bigger. Patsfans.com has a history of stories that make the news and we are often quoted.

Now assume it becomes a national "Rumor" for a day or 2 and then is proven to be false. That won't stop the media from surrounding Moss to ask questions and thus creating a distraction to the team before a huge game.

But NO, we don't care about that. "WE WANT TO KNOW & WE DON'T CARE HOW IT AFFECTS THE PATRIOTS"....this is what you're saying by posting and building this non-story into something it may not be.

Of course, the fact that 150,000 people heard Franco on WEEI being interviewed by Dennis and Callahan this morning means that "if we keep it really quiet" the nation won't hear about it.

You need to take it down a notch. Claiming discussing whether a report thats already out in the media is real or not is hurting the team is lame. Its not your job to tell people what they can or can't talk about.

It was just reported on TSN (Canada's version of ESPN) so it is an emerging story. Will be interesting to see how it unfolds today. I, like everyone else, hope it's wrong. But the discussion is worthy of being on here. Certainly more newsworthy, even if proven false, then most of the junk we post here (TMQ, Manning, et al.)

Here's the way I see it:

(a) This story is a case of mistaken identity, taken too far by an overzealous or malicious rookie radio news reporter, or;

(b) This story is true, and this rookie radio news reporter has an inside source either in the Broward County court or possibly a connection to the woman who filed the complaint.

Because there's NO WAY IMO that this nobody just happened to stumble across this info on her own, in a totally separate part of the state.

There is now a copy of the affidavit that does indicate pretty strongly that the woman is making the claim against our Randy Moss.

Note height, weight, city, state and birthdate.

Doesn't mean she's not making the whole thing up - we don't know either way - but it does look like Moss is the subject of this request for a restraining order.

Dale and Holley are just now mentioning the story and D&C talking to the reporter this AM.

The story has been re-posted on the radio station web site. But there are inconsistencies with what it says and what she said this AM. She claimed to have talked to Moss' attorney who refused comment and also to have been unable to reach that attorney.

They said they will update any information as available. Sounds like a rational approach to me. Absent a date of offense that would potentially rule out the event in question, or a comment from the accuser, or any comment from Randy's representation, it is what it is - speculation based on information as yet not even verified. Could be the wrong Moss, could be a scam intended to leverage an NFL player for personal gain, could be a disgruntled girlfriend looking to get even, could be legit.

Our debating it here does nothing but feed hysteria. It's not up to us to get to the bottom of it . We're fans, we should have our players back until given verifiable reason not to.

Kinda reminds we of the time rumors about our HC's personal life were getting blown out of all proportion HERE based on something a poster ferreted out, and it lead to his being needlessly embarassed on a day when he was in California with his children to be honored nationally.

And it's not anyone's job to build this story up to be something important when it's not...just different points of view. I just believe it's an embaressing thing to discuss rumors & inuendo's before the facts are presented...but that's just me
