How many years have the Pats been running the ZONE blocking Scheme? How many years have the COLTS been running the ZONE blocking scheme?

I think maroney is a average nfl back with injury issues. I see guys like Keith for the dolts with the same ypc avg and about the same carries , and he was not a first round draft choice.

Thus far I dont think Maroney was worth the pick. Who cares thats my deal. A lot of people think the same way. A lot agree with you.

But you chose to ignore that Keith is playing behind an O-line who has been using a Zone blocking scheme for years and that is known for HOLDING more than any other team to open holes.

Actually, that is where you are WRONG. All your poll shows is that people would have taken someone else other than Maroney. There are some who probably don't think Maroney was worth the pick. However, you can't assume that ALL of them think that because the poll answer does not say that. Its written in such a way that allowed the poster answering the question to assume that they can chose any other player as well. And there have been people who have said they'd prefer to take Ryans or McNeill. But not because Maroney is BAD or AVG. But because they felt those two players were better picks. I understand the difference. You've shown you don't have the ability to understand it.

Absolutely would not pick Maroney again. Not because I think Maroney's such a bad back like danny88 seems to, but because I think he's fairly pedestrian and RB is a position where you can plug in just about anyone and the strangest guys end up becoming stars (like Westbrook out of Villanova). A 1st round pick on a running back, unless you strike gold and get Peterson or Tomlinson, is a waste. The fact is, even guys like that have a playing span of 5 years at best, then they usually get hurt and turn into just another guy. Peterson, though exciting, is already well on his way... he simply runs too hard and too recklessly and has a past history of injury problems that will do him in.

With a 1st round pick, you ideally want a guy who's going to contribute a great deal to your team for a decade or more. With a RB, you're lucky to get him for 5... and that's if he's even a star on that level. Maroney isn't, and probably never will be. Though I think he'll be a good back, I just don't think the 1st rounder was justified... should've taken DeMeco Ryans or Kiwanuka or Lawson there in hindsight.

And, please, for the love of God do not draft Darren McFadden.

I voted No, not because of Maroney, I like him but in general RBs (outside very elite players) are highly inter-changable, the same level of production could have been obtained from a RB drafted in a later round or from a second tier veteran. Even worse was the 2:1 trade to get Jackson, WRs are very risky picks giving up a 2nd and a 3rd was poor risk management. In any of those spots my preference would have been a CB or a LB.

In any case what is done is done, I am sure there are some stocks we would like to go back and buy. He is healthy and starting to get productive, we will need him down the stretch.

Frank gore - 1,600+ yards his 2nd year. No comparison to Maroney possible.
Tiki Barber - Shared the ball with Gary Brown until his breakout year. Maroney has nobody to split the ball with in 2007 except for Faulk. What's his excuse?
Travis Henry - Busted out with 1,400 yards rushing and 1,300 yards rushing his 2nd and 3rd years. Again no comparison with Maroney here.
Brian Westbrook - Best example you've found so far. Fact remains that he has always had far better hands than Maroney and was a 3rd round pick. Therefore he was not expected to produce as a starter right away like a 1st round back would. And if he wasn't doing it in the running game at least he could contribute with catches. Maroney's simply not at that level.
Tatum Bell - Terrible example. Denver's Oline makes any RB look great. He fell off the map as soon as he moved to Detroit.
Fred Taylor - Worst example you've picked so far. He busted out for 1,200 yards his rookie season and hasn't looked back since.
Ladell Betts - Who? Are you just throwing darts at a wall at this point? He's had one good year, which now looks like an aberration.
Deuce McAllister - Broke out with 1,300 yards his second year and 1,600 yards his third year. Again no comparison to Maroney.
Joseph Addai - 1,000 yards his rookie year, and on pace to get at least 1,000 more in his second year. No comparison to Maroney, this guy got on a roll his first year out. He's better than Maroney hands down.

So out of your ENTIRE list, 1 out of 9 RBs might be comparable to Maroney in terms of their careers. And Maroney doesn't have half the hands that Westbrook does. Basically you decided to throw a bunch of names out there and hope to impress me? I actually looked at their stats on football-reference.com. You know who Maroney still compares to best as of right now, Kevan Barlow.
