Dion Lewis = $6.5 Mill?

After the first report of Lewis keeping options open. It seemed pretty obvious he was gone. This seems to confirm it.

This is his best chance to earn a nice deal in his career. So I hope he gets all the money he can. But the patriots aren’t going to pay top dollar for an oft injured running back.

If we resign anyone, Burkhead can likely be brought back for shorter money. Plus their are many other options via FA and the Draft.

I am a lot more worried about our D and I think our RB core will be solid. I wouldn’t be shocked if we see two backs taken in the draft. Similar to when we took Vareen and Ridley.

Since this "report" undoubtedly originated with Lewis' own agent, I'm not sure it confirms much of anything.

The contract that Chris Ivory just signed with the Bills may be a comp for Burkhead:

Ivory (age 30) .. 2017 season (11 games):
- 557 yds from scrimmage, 382 rushing/175 receiving
- 2 TDs, 2 fumbles

... 2 yrs/$6M

Burkhead (age 28) .. 2017 season (10 games):
- 518 yds from scrimmage, 264 rushing/254 receiving
- 8 TDs, 1 fumble

... ? yrs/$??M

As was discussed earlier, it's been seven years since BB drafted Vereen and Ridley. The only drafted RB since was White in 2014. All the other RBs that have been signed had prior NFL experience, which I believe BB prefers to rookies.

Dion Lewis is a playmaker would love to see him back but would also love double dips on late round rbs.

With which picks? They've got three early round picks, and two middle round picks, and one late round pick.

......The SB showed us we needed a corner back. Could have used some Butler Force Trauma...

...Some coverage LBs...

And most importantly, Jordan Richards outside of the stadium...

The 2018 Pats aren't going to be built based on what happened in one game at the end of the season against a very hot team. They are going to be built to win the AFC East, and beat the Steelers and whoever else the team sees as a threat in the AFC.

They still need LBs and maybe someone on the DL. This defense was just awful in the super bowl.

And what's returning from injury is potentially very strong. Yet still, the talent evaluation won't be done based on the Super Bowl. That's what fans do. They'll be looking over a year or two of performance, and looking ahead at expected performance over a full season.

Exactly. Those previous posts were referring to the SB dude. Not the 2018 season. Reading is fundamental..

Also, each of those that I listed are STILL issues that need to be addressed for this upcoming season. #FACTS.

As of now, given team needs, that would be a waste of resources.

That damn Superbowl
Yea he only had 20 something snaps. 9 carries. Zero catches. Whatever. Tom threw for 505 yards and they scored 33 points and it should have been more. Its not like the offense struggled because they didn't use him.

Hes needs a reality check.

He just finished his first year playing in all 16 games and had 235 touches. It's not like Josh froze him out.

If hes pissed off from the SB and that is the determining factor in him leaving the team then hes quite frankly being a bit of a baby.

At what point did that happen ? Where/How did the SB show that we need a powerback ?

3rd and 1, the jet sweep play?

Agree completely. The Patriots gave him his shot, extended him, and stuck with him. That doesn’t mean he’s obliged to give them a discount, but being butthurt over his useage is bullsh.t. He should go get as much as he can and the Patriots should try to get Burkhead done and done and draft a back. Really good player, would have loved to see him return, but if wants out then by all means move on from him.

James White 9 touches for 66 yards in SB52. If only we had Dion Lewis on the field.

Good luck Dion. You will get your wish on another team with top 10 RB $ & bellcow usage. At 5’8” 195 lbs. I’m not sure how that will go.

Can’t blame the guy for wanting to maximize his opportunity. Think about it, he has his ring already. So he’s accomplished winning.

If he stays here, he knows how quick we interchange RB’s and could be on the bench over one or two fumbles.

If he goes somewhere else, he likely thinks he can take a grasp of a lead role and keep that role, since other places might be more willing to allow him to do that.

I don’t get why people are bashing him for that. He likely only has a couple prime years left, and he wants to be utilized the most he possibly can.

The guy obviously has confidence in himself. Why should he take a committee backfield role? Don’t understand the pettiness towards him

The Pats have been looking at RBs early on in the scouting process for the draft and I would suspect that this is one of the reasons why (outside of normal due diligence). At that number, he's gone. I wish him luck wherever he goes unless it's against the Pats.

Let's just hope they ain't looking at a dancing with the Stars Laurence Maroney type.

Would have been called anyway. They got the look they wanted, went for it and it would have worked if not for a certain someones genius decision at the end of the play.
