I forgot how well we were moving the ball in the first half of that 2011 game. Between Gronk, Welker, and Hernandez, Baltimore wasn't doing much to slow our offense down. It really sucks 81 turned out to be a bat **** crazy murderer. He was a special player.

Its a tragic shame on many levels.

Yup, Gronk went down at the end of the 3rd and although we scored after that, he was a shell of himself and the offense went to be.

watching this 2011 D struggle in the 4th...i remember this in the stands and remember that INT all too well

Man our D this year compared to that D? Night and day better

Sterling Moore made that play in the end zone.

I remember when a lot of posters here were trying to convince themselves that the 2011 D was legitimately good.

Lloyd played well in this game. His last game as a pat probably his best.

The 2011 game is fantastic. What a rollercoaster, I thought I was going to die during the Ravens' final drive. Edelman covering Boldin, Moore saving the season at the last possible moment on Evans, and then Cundiff missing the tying kick. Crazy stuff.

Ray Lewis tried to kill Benny in this game. I understand it is a violent sport, but surely some measure of courtesy must be entailed when a guy's helmet comes off. At the very least, how about you don't lower your helmet and actively try to spear the guy in the head?

He tried to cripple Brady on the winning sneak as well. That was brutal.

Did they get to the part where Green-Ellis runs it in for a TD while losing his helmet? (Or something like that.) I loved that.

Ya I forced him out of my mind because of his disgusting actions, but seeing him juke linebackers like they are little kids in a huge game... surreal.

I hear you. Could you imagine what this team would look like if the Fallen One was still playing for us? The 2 TE set circa 11' (the last time both were healthy for long stretches of time), coupled with our D this year would, in my opinion, make the roster possibly the best one we've seen since 04. It's a shame that APerp turned out to be such a nutjob.

Actually that 2011 D was a historically bad defense that, much like every BB team, got incrementally better as the season went on, to the point where by the time the playoffs came around they were merely flawed and playing to their potential. Statistically they were the 4th or 5rh best D in the playoffs. And despite the failure of the last drive, they played more than well enough to have won that game.

I'm sure you can list the half dozen individual plays or calls, any single one that would have changed the results of that game, as well as I. However I would like to point out that the defense caused 4 Giant fumbles that night. And if we'd recovered just one of the them we would have won the game. Unfortunately the "good bounce gods" were sitting on the Giants shoulder and they recovered 3 and a penalty wiped out the 4th/

The Pats at that point wore in the beginning of their current rebuild, and the fact that the Pats were anywhere near the superbowl that season was a testament to one of BB's best coaching job. One of these days everyone ought to take a look at who was actually one the field for that game. It was HORRIFYING. You take one look at it and tell me you'd bet the Pats Saturday (or any day) if they were rolling out THAT D for a must win game..

Mild stuff from a murderer...

Three, and one was nullified by a 12th man penalty, but I completely agree with you. I don't know for certain, but I'd expect DVOA to say that NE outplayed NY by a fairly substantial margin. And there were other plays that even DVOA wouldn't catch, like the awful throw by Manning that magically resulted in a TD when Mayo had Mayo not had perhaps the worst play of his entire career, it would almost certainly have been picked and perhaps even taken to the house in the other direction.

Manning had another play where he made an awful decision on a quick sideline pass that, like the earlier pass, should have been a pick 6. The DB even read it perfectly and undercut the route. The only problem is that Eli's throw was as bad as his decision. It was about 4 yards behind him and several feet too high forcing the receiver to literally lunge backward. Since it was so far behind the receiver, not only did the undercutting DB miss the interception by a few inches, his momentum took him past the receiver, who was then able to turn upfield for a tidy 18 yard gain.

Still pisses me off.
