The Verdict Is In

they are going to f--k up the lester negotion to. hes headed for the bronk I fear. I don't want them throwing money around for high priced free agents as a general rule but there are exceptions and lester is one of them. hes a home ground player drafted and brought up threw the redsox system. and hes a two time world series champion in boston, 5 years between 115 and 120 million.
8 year lefty starter. Great story with the cancer scare and his father and great #'s. If Ben let's him walk it's a total rebuild.

Young players struggling and veterans having down years. All the luck the Red Sox had last year is not there this year.

The offense will eventually come around and the pitching is good with a ton of young dept. The team needs power bats, but those are becoming an endangered species lately.

Stanton might be the hottest ticket in baseball when his contract expires the season after next. Maybe the first 300+ million dollar player.

I agree with the above, except for the offense will eventually come around part.

It's time to blow it up, all of it…and re-sign Lester already, for feck's sake.

Unfortunately, that's how Cherrington feels. About as worth the money as home grown coffee bean.

With AAA/AAAA nubies all over that roster.......what exactly is the $170 mill payroll buying???
Peavy, AJP, Drew, Buttholtz........Seriously, I could do better and save Henry tens of millions....maybe even score a run or two each night.

Other than trade Peavy or Drew if possible I think they need to let Gomes go. No reason as of now to send any of the rookies back to Pawtucket. If healthy an outfield of Betts....Bradley....Victorino is the way to go. We got a world series out of Gomes and he would be a valuable chip to trade ....Carp stays due to lefty bat.

Also a Uehara trade would be prudent ....a stretch dtive to win a playoff spot will burn him out. I do not see him lasting ...we over pitched him last year. A team with a closer could use him as a 8th inning guy or closer ...trade him now.

I'd prefer to keep Koji; they have nobody ready to replace him.

I too am in favor of trading Gomes; he can be re-signed as a FA during the off-season.

But I'm also in favor of trading Victorino; he'll never be consistently healthy again.

I'm also in favor of trading Napoli, though according to SiriusXM that is "unlikely".
If true, then Ben = Stupid.

The payroll is deceptive, because the Red Sox have a number of players on high dollar, (relatively) short length deals. Victorino, Napoli, Drew, Gomes and Uehara were all brought in as roster filler. The Red Sox built a bridge from the dysfunctional team of 2012 to the team of the future. The World Series was only possible because of these deals. The Red Sox aren't hampered by any overpriced contracts because of those deals.

I am in favor of trading everyone over 25 on the team ... even Pedroia.

what the heck ... we won last year ... a huge bonus ... not expected ... try a rebuild.

Seriously ... trade:
Lester
Lackey
Miller
Uehara
Middlebrooks
Pedroia
Carp
Gomes

Leave victorino around ... he would be a better captain than Pedroia.
why am I down on Pedroia ... he was a juicer and nobody talks about it.
All they say is mysterious injuries ... LOL ... try he was a juicer ... now he is toast.

won't be ready to contend for a few years ... buy low - sell high.
thats what everbody said in 2012. sometimes you just dont know what you have till its gone. they will contend a lot quicker with him on the team.

im tempted to call the redsox offices and leave a angry rant about lester.

Ace pitchers just don't fall out of the sky. Sure the Sox could get a great sum of prospects with all the promise in he world in a trade but that doesn't mean any of them are going to be great. It's always a crapshoot when it comes to young talent.
