It's been almost a week, anyone having issues?

I am not here every day, but I have used this forum on a weekly basis for a couple of years.

I have never donated any cash, but I would be willing to contribute to scap this nightmare
of a "new forum" and bring back the old forum.

I am having problems from home and work on this forum.
Both of the PC's are running XP, so maybe that has something to do with the problems.

What is up with the right side of the screen "pro shop" messages that look terrible.

I also find that the forum is taking longer to load and some when I look at the threads
some of the posts do not appear "I really doubt people are posting empty posts".

Finding the link to login was not easy, and I have yet to locate how to open a new
thread.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best, this new forum does not even deserve a 1.

Ian has done a great job running this site for years, but this is not a user friendly
forum any more.

I am sure I will probably be in the minority, because Eddie Haskells of the world would
approve of just about anything Ian does.

How do I mark a thread as all read or the forum as all read when I am uninterested and only want to see future posts. Its troublesome sorting thru the chaff.

I'm missing Tapatalk badly.

There's not really a mobile version of this forum or at least is not rendering in my Samsung Galaxy S3, what is rendering is the normal version of the site/forum so I need to adjust the size of the page and the performance is not good even at a wi-fi connection, kinda heavy to render.

When looking at threads in a forum, you see the avatar of the thread starter on the left, followed by a small space, and then you see the thread title. If there is no dot in that small space between the avatar and the thread title, there have been no new posts in that thread since the last time you read it.

I hope that is close enough to what you're looking for that it helps.

My Therapist thinks I have lots of issues. Including my fascination with everything Patriots. Thus, I had to fire her.

As a side note, I just tried to adjust the size when I pulled your subject and couldn't find a place to get to that (other than switching to the BBCode editor.

As for the changes, My brain is still trying to adjust to it. This biggest plus is the cut off for quotes. I never understood why people quoted a wall of text and then said something like..."I agree"

LOL, I miss the "beating coming" icon I had at the old board. I'll have to dig that out and re-install it here.
Why is this on my opening page?

I agree with most of this post. I can't seem to find anything. How does one get out of a thread and get into another one?

I guess I don't find this forum Vyrago friendly, I am old so this criticism may not be worth taking seriously. However, this new interface, board, whatever, hurts my brain to try to navigate. The previous version was easy and very friendly. This one, not so much.

I think it's way smoother. All the unwanted advertisements are gone.

Another nice feature would be to put a copy of the quick navigation at the bottom of the posts. That would avoid having to scroll to the top to get back to the pats forum (though I know you can always hit the back button, but it uses a cached page, not refreshed).

quick navigation = section that says:
HomeForums>PatsFans.com Forums>PatsFans.com - Patriots Fan Forum

Edit: Nevermind, it's there at the very bottom :)

I have developed tools for people at work. Scripts, full-fledged programs. I've done them for free in my spare time and criticism of them is fine but I'm acutely aware when that criticism crosses the line. I"m not trying to do that, I appreciate that you've worked hard on this. So please bear that in mind if you take the time to review what I've put in below, Ian.

Ian, the new site looks great ! as always thanks a bunch for doing this. we are a very patient bunch until all the issues are ironed out, though I haven't faced any yet. Love the disagree icon :)

Will you ever have throwback Jerseys? Not Earth shattering, just curious.

I'll endorse this. I'd prefer "Like" or "Agree" -- positive reactions -- only. I think that restricting the options to encouragement (or silence) will help the board stay constructive and good-humoured. If people want to disagree or challenge the tone of a comment, experience suggests that they will.
I actually like the negative review options. If someone does not like a well thought out and well reasoned but obscenely wrong on many levels post (like 98% of Dues's stuff) then I know that person is a douche. Conversely if someone posts "Patriots rule" or "Cheatriots suck" I like the option of not liking the post beyond writing a sarcastic reply praising the genius.

Why can't we disagree with our own posts? (Is there a schizophrenic smiley?)

There's a "Mark Forums Read" button toward the top of the page. It's above where it says "Welcome to Patsfans.com." Click on it and it should give you an option to mark the forum you're in as read or all forums as read.

Thanks for all the hard work-tweaks (most of my peeves have been addressed by other posters).
My main complaint-area of concern on any website is just that enough is done to minimizing photo-memory size and other clutter that cause slower network connections to hang or pages to go long-white space type issues.

BUT Just ONE question: Where do I go to view the ABNORMAL threads?

I'm going to create some, so you'll probably see those at some point ;)

As for the white background thing - would really love to see a screenshot to try and help with that. Have a general idea of how to fix it, but since I can't duplicate it it's hard to troubleshoot. So if one of you who is dealing with it could "help me, help you" I'd be happy to try and fix it

This is the first I've heard of anyone having a problem this bad. The load time has been quick on every PC I've tested (much faster than the old software), which includes a PC at home that the kids use that has XP on it, and that works fine as well.

When you say you're looking at the posts that do not appear, if you highlight the text can you see it? That's an issue some people seem to be experiencing with older browsers and I'm trying to solve that problem. But let me know if you're at least able to highlight the text and that it's at least there and not visible.

As far as the "pro shop messages that look terrible", you should be seeing a grey sidebar with our recent articles, etc. along with the local beat writer Twitter news feed. Would love it if you could grab a screen shot and show me what you're seeing so I could try and pinpoint the trouble you're having. It obviously bothers me that you're dealing with this, so I'd love to help.

I actually think the not like feature will cut down on some of the petty arguing.
If you can simply click an opinion on a post rather than respond, in a lot of cases I bet that would keep things on track.

I get what you're saying and may eventually fill that left side in with relevant information, because the only other option is to left-justify it and that actually looks far worse when I've experimented with it.

As for the screen size, truthfully I'm finding out that the percentage of people with higher resolution monitors on here seems to be quite low, with only about 1/8th of the users so far with monitors that big judging by the number of times the sidebar has been appearing - which is actually a problem and I'm probably going to have to adjust it slightly down to at least accommodate people with monitors down closer to 1440. Unfortunately I still rely on ad revenue to support this place so the sidebar needs to be there, and I pushed that all the way over to the right because I was trying to create more of a non-invasive layout compared to what we had previously and then have it not invade smaller screens as it previously had. But in this layout's current state it's barely showing up.

It's a tough balance and I obviously want to make sure everyone is happy with everything. Hopefully we've at least made some progress there, and I'll do my best to continue trying to iron some of these issues out.
