May I make a suggestion: can this be split up into threads by position or something (e.g., O skill players/OL/DL/secondary/ST)? As someone once pointed out, otherwise a thread like this turns into a directionless blob.

In time (aka: the offseason) this will happen. But for now, there's no point in clogging up the board with a ton of threads about free agents already.

Trading Meriweather could be considered an option, but it's not a priority.

If the pats win the superbowl maybe he'd come here for 8-9 million a year rather than 12-14 million for a crap team.

As good as Fitz is, he's not worth that much to the Patriots.

This is playing field the Jets are trying to level ... Having Rex as our head coach lures players to us ... we can only hope that it gives us a shot at getting some players that might have gone to NE withouth him.

Because we already have two excellent starting corners, one of whom is likely to become elite.

And yeah, whatever he costs, it'll be too much.

Sure we do. He will be looking to be paid in excess of 16.8 million. That is what he turned down from the Raiders to void the contract. Let's say he's willing to take a 25% pay cut to play for the Pats.. They'd be looking at 12.6 million at the minimum, not to mention signing bonus and such.. Sorry, but I don't see it.

Asomugha also is a bit of a Diva. He insisted on having his own radio time and his own TV time after games.

Also, since you haven't been following much of anything, the Owners want the cap reduced by some 10-15% and possibly as much as 20%.

In a team sport like this one, teams can really only afford to pay 1 player in the double digit millions for a salary. That should be the quarterback. Paying more than one player that type of money, severally restricts how a team can put together their roster and retain their own players.

The contract also stipulates that the Cardinals can not franchise NOR TRADE HIM. Now, I'm sure that he woudl agree to a trade to NE, but you would have to re-neogiate a new contract for him and then give Arizona picks. You might be better off just waiting a year until he hits free agency.

Normally a "no-trade" clause means that a player cannot be traded against his will.

I'm pretty sure Nnamdi knows he won't get anywhere near that kind of money from anyone else. There's only one Al Davis.

I couldn't really find much info on this insistence for radio/TV time either. I know he's well-known for his charity work though.

I am 99% sure we can't afford him, but when the opportunity to acquire a Pro Bowl caliber corner comes up, especially as a free agent, you have to at least kick the tires to see what it might take. Otherwise, you're doing the team a disservice.
