While the Red Sox added Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzales and will be getting back a healthy Pedroia, Youk and Ellsbury.

I doubt Werth was ever on the Yankees radar and Crawford wasn't worth the money he got from the Sox for us with what he would bring to the table. They are probably looking for a starting pitcher via trade.

If Beckett, Lackey and Dice-K are your worst 3 pitchers you're in pretty good shape.

The Sox certainly have the pitching to go all the way. What was missing from our line-up was a big bat or two. They've definitely taken care of that so far this offseason.

Gardner doesn't = Crawford, but he does offer some of the same production at a fraction of the cost. Also, where Gardner can't match Crawford (doesn't have the same power or a .300 avg for example), he is a better defender (the best LF'er in baseball according to Fangraphs...apply salt) and is superior at getting on base. One is a 2 or 3 hitter in the line-up, while the other bats lead-off. So yes, Crawford is the better overall player, but Gardner is (at this point) an extremely productive player in his own right.
