The NBA has image problems which have hindered (in comparison to the NFL) its profitability. There are currently no steroid scandals like there are in baseball.

Not a fan of Goodell, but what surprises me more is the timing of this... admittedly without reading the article, was his contract up or did he still have another year and they extended him early? If it's early, why not wait to see how the labor talks end up progressing? Seems to me that has a chance of going south on him.
