REPORT: Patriots May Have Long Term Plans For Revis

Following the report from ESPN's Adam Schefter Wednesday night that the Patriots had reached a 1-year agreement with free agent cornerback Darrelle Revis, there was some conflict from his business manager, John Geiger, who said that nothing had been agreed to just yet.

A day later, his manager finally confirmed the deal but according to the NFL Network's Albert Breer, the two sides may be having a change of heart and after their meeting they may be thinking a 1-year deal might not be long enough.  Breer reports that following a "feeling-out period", New England may now be thinking of locking him up with a long-term deal, with Breer saying the club sees an opportunity like this as rare.

Locking up Revis for the foreseeable future in Bill Belichick's defense would be a major move for a team who hasn't had a player of his caliber since the days of when New England had Ty Law in their secondary.

Fortunately they've already got him for this year.  If this news is true and they're able to get something done to keep him even longer, that obviously makes it even better. At just 28 years old it's tough not to believe Revis still has plenty of his best football left in him, and hopefully if all goes well the Patriots will be able to enjoy having him around for more than just this season.
