Quick bits of news from today's media sources:

It looks like there are several New England Patriots players who have spent the offseason trying to better themselves for life after football. According to the Boston Globe Patriots linebacker Matt Chatham reportedly works as a researcher and reporter in New York for Esquire magazine, while defensive end Jarvis Green is gaining professional experience in engine building at Rolls-Royce in Walpole. The newspaper also reported that both are among the more than 200 players reportedly participating in offseason internships. Mike Vrabel will reportedly receive his degree in pre-med from Ohio State next month.

Meanwhile the Providence Journal reported on Monday that in addition to contract extensions and restructures done by linebackers Roman Phifer and Mike Vrabel, Rosevelt Colvin apparently did some as well. According to the newspaper Colvin was set to make a 2004 salary of $1.6 million. The NFLPA indicates he'll now make $535,000.

One bit of news that had gone unnoticed was that Jarvis Green apparently suffered an injury during the offseason. USA Today's Inside Slant reported on Monday that Green suffered a stress fracture in his foot during the offseason that simply required him to rest it and keep his weight off it. Green is wearing a walking-type of cast to alleviate pressure. According to the article it shouldn't keep him from being ready for training camp next month.

As for any free agent pick-ups after June 1, in Peter King's Monday Morning Quarterback article at CNNSI.com he says that he's putting the "smart money" on former New York Jets QB Vinny Testaverde landing in Dallas to back up whoever wins that job for one year. But he says to, "watch out for a late challenge from the Patriots".
