- A great quarter for Matt Cassel, who looked poised and confident in New England’s only drive, a 13-play, 73-yard series that ended with a two-yard score from BenJarvus Green-Ellis. The Patriots quarterback was 4-for-5 for 48 yards, and got rid of the ball in a timely and efficient manner.
- The New England defense was in bend-but-don’t-break mode, allowing the Rams to drive into the New England red zone, but stiffening up on the goal line and holding St. Louis to just three points on its opening drive. The Patriots operated in a 3-4 defense for the entire first quarter.
