Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman took some time on social media Monday to share his support for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine as their war with Russia continues within the Eastern European country.

“Heartbroken seeing the violence facing Ukraine. But glad they’ve got one hell of a leader,” Edelman wrote. “He’s a Jewish descendent of Holocaust survivors, so he’s grown up knowing what’s at stake. Zelenskyy is putting his people first, standing with his troops in the trenches, and showing bullies they’ll never give up.”

Edelman then added: “I stand with Z and the people of Ukraine.”

While most of Edelman’s social media content is lighthearted, he hasn’t shied away from using his platforms to address real-world issues too, especially those that involve the Jewish community and anti-semitism.

In 2021 and 2020, Edelman reached out to both NBA player Myles Leonard and NFL wide receiver Desean Jackson following controversial comments made by the athletes.
