After a tough start to 2020 that saw him land on the COVID-19 list and miss three games dealing with a knee injury, reigning Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore has begun to find his groove again as the season enters its home stretch.

During Sunday’s win against the Arizona Cardinals, “the gilly lock” was back on full display during his one-on-one matchup with DeAndre Hopkins.

When covering the four-time Pro Bowl receiver, Gilmore limited Hopkins to just five receptions for 55 yards and no touchdowns.

Following the win, Gilmore shared his respect to one of the games best wide receivers.

“For sure,” Gilmore told reporters when asked if Hopkins is one of the toughest players to cover. “You put the ball anywhere near him and he’s able to catch the ball. He’s a great receiver. [It’s] two great players competing against each other. We both like to play physical. That’s why you play the game. Playing against the best, I enjoyed it.”

On Thursday, Gilmore shared a photo over Instagram of himself lining up against Hopkins last weekend, with a positive caption that read “in my element”.

Gilmore will look to continue the recent success in his element against Keenan Allen and the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
