Rob Gronkowski is returning to football, well sort of.

On Tuesday, FOX Sports announced the hiring of Gronkowski as an NFL Analyst during its television programming.

“We’re thrilled Rob chose FOX Sports for the next phase of his football life,” FOX Sports Executive Producer and Executive Vice President Brad Zager said.

“He is one of the most popular players to ever play the game and also one of the best tight ends in NFL history. His passion for the game and larger-than-life personality make him a perfect fit for FOX Sports.”

Gronkowski is expected to make his analyst debut during the Thursday Night Football pregame show at 7:30 EST on FOX Thursday night when the Patriots take on the New York Giants at Gillette Stadium.

“I’m extremely excited to be joining FOX Sports,” Gronkowski said in a statement. “For the past 25 years, they’ve offered viewers top-notch NFL programming from the field to the booth to the studio. Their deep talent roster is unmatched, which was important for me as I embark on this new chapter in my life because I’ll be able to learn from the best in the business.”

His longtime quarterback Tom Brady was asked for his reaction on Gronk’s new job during his Tuesday press conference.

“He’ll be good…He’s been pretty good at everything he’s done. I didn’t know (about the job). That’s good for him. A great opportunity.”

When told Gronkowski’s debut will be on Thursday, Brady replied saying “Oh good. Hard hitting analysis.”

Brady also acknowledged Gronkowski joins a growing list of retired Patriots who have found success with sports media television jobs.

“It’s great to see a lot of our guys get a lot of great opportunities like that”
