On December 28th, New Orleans Saints tight end and former New England Patriot Benjamin Watson announced he will be retiring at the conclusion of the 2018 season.

Watson, the 32nd overall pick of the Patriots in 2004, won a Super Bowl ring as a rookie and played his first six seasons in Foxboro.

He hauled in 20 touchdown receptions from 2005-2009, second most on the Patriots to Randy Moss in that time span.

However Watson’s most notable moment in New England didn’t come on offense, but as an impromptu defender.

In the 2005 Divisional Playoff against the Denver Broncos, Tom Brady was intercepted by Champ Bailey and returned 101 yards.

Watson chased down Bailey and knocked him out of bounds just before the goal line to prevent a touchdown.

Watson departed New England following the 2009 season, stopping in Cleveland, New Orleans and Baltimore over the next eight years before returning to the Saints in 2018.

NFL Films profiled the veteran tight end during his final professional season.
