On Monday ESPN Boston’s Mike Reiss first reported that the New England Patriots invited former Indianapolis Colts running back Dnaiel “Boom” Herron into Foxboro for a workout with the team.

Herron, who played in all 16 games and the playoffs for the Colts in 2014, was sidelined with a shoulder injury after returning a kickoff against the Cincinnati Bengals during the final preseason game.

On September 6th 2015, Herron was waived injured by the Colts but went unclaimed and remained on injured reserve the first month of the season.

Herron proved to be a reliable running back for the Colts in 2014,  rushing for 351 yards and one touchdown, while adding on 21 receptions for 173 yards during the regular season. As Reiss reiterated in a tweet today, its normal to see the Patriots workout players every week to keep the depth chart fresh in case of an emergency situation.
