this time they have gone way to far. This has got to be one of the most tasteless, classelss comments I have ever heard. They had no other choice but to fire this guy. Either way, I am sure it would never get to much press.

Radio Host Fired Over Kennedy Remark

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh-area sports radio host Mark Madden has been fired by ESPN.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has quoted Madden as saying he had hoped Sen. Edward Kennedy "would live long enough to be assassinated." The Massachusetts Democrat has a brain tumor.

Madden made the remark during his show Wednesday. The show has aired weekdays from 3 to 7 p.m. on 1250 ESPN. Madden was last heard on the air Thursday, the day before his comments appeared in the Post-Gazette.

An ESPN spokesman says Madden was taken off the air according to the network's contractual rights.

Madden could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.

Not to defend the world wide leader, its not all of espn that hires him, the local market is responsible.. The world wide leader might have given the ok to fire him though..

Sean, you are correct. He was hired by the local market (in this case pittsburgh). Pittsburgh's ESPN station is "owned and operated" by ESPN in CT. Pittsburgh got clearance from CT to bring him aboard (years ago). ESPN in CT actually had him working weekends, years ago, before they bumped him as well. CT deemed he wasn't "national" material but had no problem with the local market keeping him on.

Because ESPN in pittsburgh is "owned and operated" by CT, CT has the ultimate veo/firing power if they want - which they have obviously exercised.

BTW...might have been one of the dumbest things i've ever heard or read from someone who has such a public "forum" like that. What a dope.

If this guy on ESPN was looking for a laugh he should have used Bush instead of Kennedy.

I agree we are too sensitive, but in this case the punishment was warranted. Three of his brothers gave their lives honoring this country and 2 of them were assassinated.

Doesn't take a genius to see that there was no question what this man's motivation was. He should be publically B**** Slapped.

So I guess the fact that drunk Teddy killed a woman is ok, but someone joking about the fat bafoon and his creepy family is a fireable offense?

So, does that mean we can also make assassination jokes about Laura Bush because she killed her boyfriend in a car accident?

I always ***** on here about the word police, and I HATE it when people are fired over words and poor comments. This one, however, is pretty rough. I still might not support firing, but maybe a suspension. That's a very mean-spirited comment to make, and I can see why the company would want to punish him.
