Yates: Picked up pieces game review Pats at Titans

Within the span of three plays, the Patriots showed both a spread formation and a "Y-F" look, in which Aaron Hernandez was lined up adjacent to Rob Gronkowski on the left side of the line of scrimmage. The Patriots rushed to the line of scrimmage (they were so expedient the television camera hardly caught the play in time), and were able to run a power run play with the same personnel that they earlier spread the field with.

Nothing we haven't all been anticipating for months, but still, seeing it in action is beautiful. In the hurry-up, the Patriots essentially get to adjust situational offensive groupings at will, without allowing the defense to substitute. Deadly.

Easily the best breakdowns provided by a regional sportswriter.

That's because he has a real background and basis to since he started out after college as a scout and in KC which was attempting to rebuild to run the same base offense used here. And he interned in the coaching and scouting depts. with the NEP for 4 years in college. He also wrote and decided to refocus on that aspect of his career. Hope we can keep him local. Beats the hell out of guys conditioned to focus more on opining about potential coaching or player controversy...

This guy is an excellent addition to the local press crew. If he proves himself over the season, and has a good TV presence, he'll be at ESPN national pretty quickly.

Very good article that everyone should read.

Patchick pointed out the best line.

I would add that I really like this line too - "Sometimes as a defender, you have to just give credit where it's due to an opponent, and such was the case on this play." Even if a player is in position and does his job well, he doesn't always succeed.

Yeah, and that cuts both ways. Should be stickied into every game thread that sometimes as a fan you just have to give credit where it's due to an opponent.

Agree with this and would add that it applies to the Gronk TD as well--a perfect pass and pattern that combined looked indefensible.

I don't care as long as it doesn't go into a Jester game thread......

...or on how soon they can score the national gig (see: Breer, Albert).
