Not that Petitte is a top tier pitcher, but I'd put the development on par with Schillings decision to stay in Boston.
I don't expect this is going to have any bearing on the Yankees push for Santana - if anything, if I'm Petitte, I'm more interested in playing if I expect the Yankees will have Santana - and barring an increased offer from the Sox that looks like what will happen.
Still one can't help but wonder if this move comes on the heels of the reports out of Boston that Ellsbury IS someone the Sox will trade - just not as a package with their top pitching as well (i.e. the Twins aren't getting Lester, Bucholtz AND Ellsbury)
While there are some pros and cons to waiting, I can't help but wonder if the Twins will choose to wait until next year's signing deadline instead.
Pro - they get a chance to see how those prospects in these packages pan out.
Con - if they're REALLY good they won't be part of a deal and talk will turn to other prospects
Pro - they might find the Sox, Yankees, or another team more desperate mid season
Con - Santana could wind up getting injured too
