Are you in favor of a Foxboro Casino?

I didn't ask what Bob kraft has to do with the NFL I asked what Bob Kraft building a casino has to do with the NFL. Do you think the NFL has the power to tell bob kraft not to build a casino?
Actually, yeah I do think the NFL has the power to tell Bob Kraft not to build a casino. Such bylaws already exist regarding NFL owners not being allowed to get involved in gambling interests. The Rooney family had to restructure ownership of the Steelers to avoid a conflict with the fact that they also owned casinos.

That is why Kraft is doing everything he can to make it clear that all he is doing is "leasing the land" to Wynn and not getting any sort of personal stake in the business himself. Of course, if you believe that, I have some great oceanfront property in Foxboro available to sell you. You'll be close to the both the beach and the casino!

That'll never happen. For some reason I cannot comprehend, there is a federal law that states that only the state of Nevada can have sports gambling. Personally I don't see how in the world such a thing is Constitutional where the federal gov't can allow something in one state but forbid it in all the others, but that's another matter.

If sports books were available in every state, as much as I would like to gamble on sports, all hell would break loose. I don't gamble but I would be a junkie on NFL games. There would be a lot more Tim Donaghy's around...or at least that is the fear.

Yeah... I wouldn't want to live near a sportsbook. I can see myself sitting around on a Sunday waiting for the Sunday night game to start convincing myself that Pittsburgh can cover 9 points in Kansas City... oh wait that happened last year when I was in Vegas.

Fortunately the Panthers were somehow only giving up 3 to the Colts that day so I came out ahead.

That's silly. In this day and age, sports gambling is available in all states, whether we are talking about the neighborhood bookie or the online offshore sports book. If it were made legal, nothing would change.

Anyone who has an internet connection lives near a sportsbook. It'd just be nice to have a local one instead of dealing with some of these offshored ones like Bovada (formerly Bodog).

My understanding is the NFL hates gambling. If that is the case I don't see this happening.

I don't care about it either way and feel like it should be up to that county more than anyone else, I don't think it should be foisted upon them if they don't want it. However given the NFL's supposed stance against gambling, which is laughable, and past opposition to any desire for a team in Las Vegas, I don't see how they can go along with the idea.

I don't care about the casino or the free drinks, but if they put in a well run poker room with good 20/40 stud and hold 'em games, then I'd be a regular

This No Limit craze has seriously ruined poker. It's nearly impossible to find a good Stud or Limit Hold'em game these days. Even in Vegas it's really, really hard to find.

You are in the minority though. Personally, I wouldn't want to deal with the traffic more than anything else. Unless the state finally gives in and gives Foxboro stadium its own exit, the traffic on RTE 1 is going to be a nightmare most weekends. Not to the point of a football game, but pretty bad.

This is what I'm most worried about

I first voted yes, because I do enjoy gambling, and hate how far Foxwoods is (I live in Southie). But, I finally get my season tickets next year, and traffic is already crazy enough. I don't want it to get worse! Which it would unless they make some huge civil engineering overhauls.

It's available but you're taking on more risk with those type of places. At least that's my p.o.v.

That's partially because Foxwoods is the only reason to travel on those roads. Route 1 already has regular commuter traffic, congestion during the holidays and event traffic. In addition to Pats games there is MLS soccer/concerts/high school football etc.
That's true to a point. There are also more businesses along Route 1 that add to the traffic, but my point remains valid. The Casino wouldn't add much to that traffic. If it was a game day, I'd get there either hours before the game starts or after. Also people who go to the casino make a day of it. There isn't that high volume coming and going that causes jams.

Yes it would increase the overall volume of the highway, but not the degree that it would cause massive traffic problems that were out of the ordinary. If you want to list it as a "concern" fine, but it should be at the bottom of the list.

I wouldn't think people would want to go there on a Sunday with the Patriots at home. Would you want to sit in normal Patriots traffic just to go to a casino? If anything, the place would be full of people who are going to the game or coming from it.

I disagree but we're kind of getting off track here. You said that if sports gambling was legalized in the US (beyond Las Vegas) then "there would be a lot more Tim Donaghy's around."

Believe me: The people with the resources and the desire to rig the outcome of professional sporting events are not going to be terribly inconvenienced by the fact that they have to place the bets in Nevada (assuming they even bother with placing the bet at a legit book instead of some other book).

Um, I think you just hit the nail on the head with that. True, the busloads of old ladies looking to play slots wouldn't show up on gamedays. But I think an awful lot of fans would enjoy spending the night at the casino and taking a shuttle to and from the stadium.
