WR Torrey Smith

There was a lot of Torrey Smith love on this board, including by me. He was legitimate deep threat coming out of college with very good size and productivity.

Ras-I Dowling was a reach. Belichick and the staff got too cute, taking a guy with first round talent who hadn't been on the field enough to show it.

It was a masturbatory exercise. Futile. As is usually how those things go.

If that's how things normally go around here how did we wind up in the superbowl?

well, i will say that Pats draft and Pats making the Superbowl are unrelated discussions.

Pats make the SB because of one guy, Brady, is that not obvious ? That too, despite a fairly abysmal drafting resume of BB/Pioli, especially at those skilled positions like WR, DB, RB

His point is legit, there have been too many reaches for DB, and every year same crap story...Brock Williams, or Whilte, or Wheatley, or Hobbs or Butler, list goes on.

Jusry is still our on McCourty(one year wonder ?) and Ras I(injury). If they cant step it up this fall, then come 2013 it will be back to drafting more DB's

All this at the expense of losing talent at other positions. Same story on WR side....haven't hit on one since Branch, and busts galore Chad Jackson, Bethel Johnson, Tate, Price...

Brady wasn't drafted? Or Gronkowski, Mankins, Wikfork - you get the idea. The Patriots do perfectly fine in the draft. The draft two years ago was one for the ages. No-one can pass a critical comment on last years draft without looking a little bit silly and premature.

If there's a team that has a 100% record on draft picks, I'd like to know about them. And question why they're not in the superbowl every few years.

We do a great job with the first round. Hit or miss with FA.

But last year we screwed up not taking a WR who could play for us. Most of the other NFL teams knew Dowling had first round athleticism and abilities. His history of nagging injuries, which kept them from considering him when we did, has simply carried over.

He might become a solid contributor for us. I hope so. But past is prologue and Torrey Smith would have helped this team a great deal more.

We would have won the SB with him.

Add to it the fact injury risk like Brandon Tate selected over a solid college producer like Mike Wallace.....one pick after Tate, Steelers nabbed Wallace. Rest is history.

I dont even want to go near the Chad Jackson trade up. It was infuriating to watch that debaccle in the draft when passed over a very productive College WR Greg Jennings with 238 receptions to pick a one year wonder Chad Jackson with 120 receptions of which 88 came in one year. Another Urban Meyer NFL bust.
And yea, I do live in Michigan and followed Jennings at Western Mich

Solid producer? His 784 yards were 69th in D1 in 2008. He averaged 60 yards per game. Brandon Tate was averaging 75 per game in his 5 games before he got hurt. There were reasons to like Wallace more than Tate. College production sure as hell wasn't one of them.

Go educate yourself first.

What the hell did Tate do ? 6 games 16 reception, wow ? Wallace scored more TD's in one year than Tate did in his entire NC career. THATS CALLED PRODUCTION... SCORING POINTS IS PRODUCTION, I REPEAT

I said Tate was a INJURY RISK
and he was primarily a return specialist. Torn ACL and MCL and taking a risk in 3rd round was piss poor decision.

He only showed flashes of his receiving in his senior year, whereas Wallace was improving as a route runner with great speed.

I'll worry about the rest later, but where exactly are you getting this from?

Tate scored 8 receiving touchdowns at UNC along with 2 rushing touchdowns. He also returned 3 kickoffs and 3 punts for touchdowns. Mike Wallace season high number of receiving touchdowns at Ole Miss was 7 in 2008.

How is 7 more than 8, let alone 16? You really do suck in math, don't you?

Ras was a 1st round talent. Torrey Smith wasn't. Vast difference.

Yeah. SEC>>>>>>>>>>>> MAC.

Tate was more polished coming out of UNC than Wallace. Wallace is still an only deep threat WR. He still runs sloppy routes. He still rarely runs inside routes.

Also, Tate ran back punts and kicks in College. ST value trumped Tate over Wallace.

I also saw your prediction/wants from last year's draft.

Glad you aren't selecting the players.
