Seems like Patriots might look to get the running game going tonight. Bring in that extra tackle to block.

I know he is technically a TE but Hernandez. Lines up more as WR than a TE

If Connolly can play tonight, this should be a Patriot ground and pound game. The two best running games of the season were Thomas- LG/Connolly RG games. Harris and Scott are all done, Pouha is playing hurt. Ridley, Vereen and Woodhead must be licking their chops.

I am sad about Salas. I thought he was a good developmental prospect.

Nobody will be claiming him before Friday evening due to waivers. He's cleared waivers once already. Likely will clear 'em again and land back on the PS.

I really hope you're right, otherwise another draft choice goes down the drain, conditional yes, but still. Is the condition for the draft pick known?

Probably a certain # of games on the 53-man/46-man roster.

    Wow.

So that PS pay increase counts for nought right now.

The implication for this is there was no one the Pats could put on IR instead, so they had to cut someone.

I'm sure Salas will be back on the PS or roster by next week, with a bump in pay for being cool about it.

Understood. Just seems a bit risky if the intention is to keep him

This was the last day the Pats could add Zusevics to the roster from the NFI list, so it's good to see that he's shown enough to get added to the roster.

We could have waived Rivera. This seems to be a risky choice if we really want to keep the guy.

Re: There goes a perfectly good wasted late round pick

    1. How you can think this is worth creating a thread about is beyond me.

    2. It was a 2015 late round pick, for Crissake.

    3. There's still the possibility that Salas could be re-signed to the PS once again.

Re: There goes a perfectly good wasted late round pick

How? - simple.... anytime you trade a pick for someone who turns out is not someone worth keeping on the roster (even if they keep on bringing back), is NOT worth a trade, however late pick that would have been.

Re: There goes a perfectly good wasted late round pick

That's one way of looking at it. By that metric, every draft pick that didn't work out was a waste of a draft pick.

Hindsight is always 20-20. As I've discussed elsewhere, the Pats frequently seem to be driven in their decision making by minimizing risk and dealing with uncertainty:

    http://www.patsfans.com/new-england...uncertainty-theory-how-pats-do-business.html

The Salas trade was a very reasonable trade under this framework. A very low cost (late round 2015 draft pick) trade for a receiver known to Josh McDaniels who could potentially have given them some insurance in case re-signing Wes Welker didn't work out, or in case of injury to a thin WR corps. This is how it was viewed at the time:

New England Patriots trade for Greg Salas from Rams - NFL.com

If other options worked out to make Salas unnecessary, or if risk management required using his roster spot elsewhere (the OL, for example), that doesn't necessarily make it a bad trade.

For all we know, nothing may have changed regarding the Pats' opinion of Salas. They may simply have decided (1) that they need that roster spot more for OL depth right now, (2) that they may be able to sneak him back to the PS, and (3) that they can live with it if #2 doesn't work out, especially given the emergence of Julian Edelman and Shane Vereen as offensive playmakers.

I am very interested on any thoughts, opinions, projections on this guy from posters to patsfans in the know. I know he had a triceps tear if I remember correctly and he's from Iowa? Anyone? Thoughts? Thanks all....
