WE keep presuming that Wilfork will be back playing for us. I'm not sure why. Someone else could give up 2 firsts. he could hold out throughout the offseason and make a trade likely.

Two low firsts for what kind of top NT?

Like, would I trade two low firsts (and by low, I assume you mean near the bottom of the round) for a Vince Wilfork clone?

Absolutely. Then re-sign Wilfork. We would have the best d-line in football!

    No.

Because no one would give us two firsts, so I'm not going to mess with the mojo and even consider this.

If you said one first, then it would be more plausible, but in that case, no I would not trade Wilfork for a low first. Trading Richard for a high first is a different story for two reasons. One, it's a high first. Two, I didn't think Richard would be with the Patriots past this year.

If you could assure me that we'd have both these players on the team for the next four years, I would not trade either of them for a high first or a low first, because at the end of those 4 years, Tom Brady is 36.

    Disable Jersey

Denver would be a great example of a team that might pull the trigger on such a move.

Definitely. This is the guy who gave up the 83 yard run that sank our season.

Take a 1st and pick Dan Williams of Tennessee. 6'3" 320 and he'd be as good as Wilfork after about 1/2 a season....or play more 4-3, which I think we should do anyway.

Wilfork wants top $, sorry Charlie.

Are you sh!tting me? Wilfork was tied up on a double-team in that play. They trapped him and shut him down.

    #24 Jersey

I think it's an invalid question as I don't think anyone would do it - but I would trade anyone on the team, other than Brady, for two #1s. I know our recent drafts have been inconsistent but the chance to get two #1s and save the money from a big contract is way to good for me to pass up. I'd take a #1 and #3 to be honest.

When was the last time someone forfeited 2 #1's to outright sign a franchise tagged player? I recall it's been a long time and it proved to be a disaster.

Patriots have an ace in the hole. Bianca won't let him sit once the checks start disappearing. Especially since there is a liklihood he gets nothing for his efforts even if he held out through week 9 because there won't be many FA signings entering a 2011 lockout. May not even be much guaranteed money available to FA this season over and above what he gets via tag in 2010 for the same reason. Will be interesting to see if they go exclusive tag so Vince can't even talk to potential suitors...And after the 2010 draft who is likely to have 2 firsts to part with or the capacity to create them...since there is no 2012 draft...

    #24 Jersey

I think this is the closest in recent times :

"On April 22, 2008, the Chiefs traded Jared Allen to the Minnesota Vikings. In exchange, the Vikings sent the Chiefs a first-round pick, which they used to select OT Branden Albert, and two third-round picks and swapped sixth-round picks in the 2008 NFL Draft."

As much as we love Vince, though, I think every team would take the dynamic pass rusher over the two down run stopper.

Where was our all world ILB then? They can't tackle a guy in the hole?

Wilfork is supposed to fight through double teams and cause congestion in the hole...did he do that or was he just blown 5 yards back?

If you're telling me that our defense full of #1 picks give up 83 yards on the first play of the game, right up the gut, right past our #1s, and the key of teh whole thing, all world Wilfork,...well it wasn't his fault. Then we need a scheme change cause we suck. How many 83 yards did the colts give up with their defense of little minature players?

Slightly OT, but the way I saw it, the problem against the Ravens was that they could handle Green and for the most part, Warren, with one blocker each. That left two guys to block Wilfork and two guys (including the TE) to get to the the LBs. That's why the Patriots adjusted (too late IMO) by putting Wilfork at RE in the second half.

Cassel was worth pick #34, though we might have gotten more if we waited. It seems the urgency to get out there and sign Fred Taylor and Chris Baker forced us to move quickly.

We only got a 3rd and a 4th for Tebucky in another franchise-and-trade.

We got a 1st for Bledsoe and also got a 1st for Deion Branch.

I would say that Wilfork is probably worth one 1st rounder. Not two.

He is definitely worth a contract extension if we can get him signed.

I think it depends on your team. If your team has a lot of holes, like Denver's, the answer is NO.

But if your team is close, like Miami's, and has a huge gaping hole at NT in a 3-4 defense, then yes, you give up the two first rounders in a heartbeat.

Let me put it like this. If Ware were a FA, would you want the Pats to spend two first rounders to sign him? I know I would in a heartbeat, because we have a huge gaping hole at pass rusher and we might be playing in the Superbowl if we had 2 legitimate co-ordinators and a legitimate pass rusher.

I fully expect Miami to come hard after Vince, and if Big Vince gives Miami a home town discount, I expect Parcells to sign him. If Vince plays hardball on the cash, then I expect Parcells to pass and take the best LBer on the board at #12.

Couldn't agree more. I'd unload 2 1sts for a 12-15 sack guy any day od the week.

He'll yes. Guys I would consider possibly trading 2 1st for:

    1. DeMarcus Ware
    2. Jared Allen
    3. Haloti Ngata
    4. Darrelle Revis

If someone wants to give up two firsts for Wilfork, I'd probably take it and move on. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't think he is as important as a guy like Seymour or Vrabel/Bruschi/Law in their prime. For one, he plays only a little more than half the snaps and has little value in the pass defense packages, which we use increasingly.

The thing to me is - Big Vince, no matter how good he is - isn't going to make a play in the 4th quarter to swing a game in our favor. And that's a huge detriment against him. Personally, I'd love to see the team try and use him on all 3 downs and see if he can provide some interior pass rush, he seems to do just that when he's in on the base defense and its a pass play.

Here is a story of desperation. Dom Capers was it's victim. If Tuna were that desperate, he'd just take the balance of his money on that contract the idiot former owner signed him to and head for less desperate pastures...

Sean Gilbert - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If Vince is exclusive tagged no one can even talk to him. If he's non exclusive tagged we can match any offer, so if he gave someone else a home town discount we could simply match the deal within 7 days if we don't want the 2 firsts...

That guy Dom Caper's made the mistake of trading two firsts for was Revis' uncle...

Where the hell are we picking these posters up from? Wilfork gave up the run that sank our season? Dramatic much?

According to a report from the Globe (Breer), BB interrogated Saban about that behemoth Cody kid from Alabama. So, who knows? We might be surprised come draft day.
