With Tight End Clay Harbor, the Patriots Are Set for 2017

Steve Balestrieri

One player that will be kind of under the radar but should be watched closely is tight end Clay Harbor.

The Pats are all set at TE in 2017 and Harbor has not played a down for the Patriots???

Next up what Patriots projected draft picks in the 2018 draft...

I appreciate that Steve puts himself out there with these articles, but he's really got to tighten things up.

Caught in a numbers crunch with Marcedes Lewis and Julius Thomas in 2015 at Jacksonville, Harbor saw his numbers plummet from 50 receptions in 2014 to just 14 last season.

According to ESPN, ProFootballReference.com, and NFL.com, Harbor didn't have 50 receptions in 2014. He had 26. In fact, that season of 26 receptions was a career high, and it's the only time where he reached an average of 2 catches per game (he played in 13 that season). He's not only never had 50 receptions in a season, he's never had 50 targets (career high 39 in 2012).

Assuming those 3 normally pretty reliable stat sites haven't all erred along with Patriots.com, which also has him at 26 catches in 2014, that's a huge miss on a simple stat, and it significantly undercuts the part of the article where Steve talks about Harbor as carving out a "role that will come into prominence next season".

It's called a projection......it is reasonable to assert that the Pats are better off at TE than in 2011 (2200 yards and 25 TD's) which makes it interesting to talk about.

WTF else you gonna talk about? bob Kraft?

he's here as insurance in case all of the young TE's flop.....I think that AJ Derby is still the best of that bunch, but don't hold much hope for an IR rookie

Not sure why TE is even being discussed as an issue.....Williams is still on the team also and has experience in the system. TE/OT makes him a swiss army knife for BB......Do the Pats keep 4 TE's ? Williams,Derby and Harbor fighting for one spot is likely.....
