Wouldn't it make sense for BB to trade out of the first round? I could see him parlaying the 1st rounder into a 1st + more next year. I think it's time to conserve some cap space and this would go a long way to protecting the Patriots salary cap. I could see us taking a linebacker in the second round + some receivers or young defensive lineman, but right now we don't really need anything. The Patriots are all set for the next year imo.

I think BB wants to get a stud LB in the 1st round

    #12 Jersey

I felt this way before the signing of Bodden. Unless a guy like Malcolm Jenkins falls to us at #23 there really isn't anyone with a true top 20 value IMO. So why not? We already have 3 picks in the 2nd. We can wait on the guys we like to fall to us at #34 assuming there isn't a consensus on who's the best OLB among guys like Cushing, Matthews, English and Barwin.

I have a sneaking feeling that pick is going to become Larry English. Anybody else thinking this or have I gone nuts?

No freaking way! The Pats need to stop with the trading draft picks for next year. They desperately need an OLB if they want the secondary to do their job effectively.

    #12 Jersey

:rocker: he's my binky at #23, but there is a big debate over where these guys rank. But if there's any uncertainty then I think it makes sense to wait and save the $ by drafting a guy of similar value at #34.

No I'm looking forward to getting some good valued (money wise) players on day 1, and I think the signing of Bodden dosen't change this. I really feel he's there to promote depth and competition, not AS major of a signing as some our implying--although I love it at the veteran minimum.

My guess is he will go for DL.

You know-- that's what it is. he's my binky. LOL Didn't realize it until you posted it, but that "feeling" is really just that I want him bad.

It'd be funny to hear that word used internally. An interview with Hoodie next year, "Well, he was my binky at 23." Hahaha

This has been a great offseason for our "D". Reminds me of the "O" moves we made 2 years ago.

If you told me 2 or 3 years ago we'd have Brady, Moss, Welker, Bodden, Springs, F Taylor, etc. Man oh man

I hope T.O. is getting his popcorn ready.

I honestly think if they come to an agreement with Taylor by then, its a possibility. Or I can also see him taking that pick plus another one and trading up for an impact player, like a Mayo, to complete our defense. IDK but I feel a WHOLE lot better now that we got bowden

maybe we can trade our first (#23) and first second (#34) and somehow get curry. the value chart says #3 overall goes for 2,200 points, while #23 (760 points) + #34 (560) = only 1320, it is possible. who knows.

The problem is that trading up is going to put a serious strain on our salary cap. That's why I think trading out of the first round may be the shark move here.

Are points and salary the same? It seems like a number 3 would be a huge amount of money.

obviously not, but we need a pass rushing OLB. Curry would be that guy. We can get him at an average of (im guessing here) 6M per year OR we can trade for a guy like pepers and pay him 12M per year (im guessing here too). BB and the tuna say predicting dominant pass rushing linebackers is one of the easier things to do in terms of rating college prospects and how they will translate into nfl players.

or of course, we can keep the guys we have and continue to struggle getting to the QB

    haha that would be hilarious!

I've liked him ever since watching the Senior Bowl. He played for a small school, so it was great to see him shine against top competition.

yeah that's not nearly enough. you'd need to include a 1st in 2010 to even come close.

OK, let's use the chart your using and make the trade almost even. Curry is out of reach, even if were available at #3 which he may not be.

We would need to trade our first five picks to get the #3 pick in the draft.

    #3 2200
    #7 13.4
    total 2213.4

    #23 760
    #34 560
    #47 430
    #58 320
    #89 145
    total 2215

They need to draft as many people as it takes to fix the pass rush. Springs, Bodden and Hobbs will look a heck of a lot better if they don't have to cover for 8 seconds. If that takes all 4 of the early picks to get it done then so be it.

I'd rather draft LBs, English AND Barwin at #23 and #34 respectively and still be able to draft a S, WR and OL with the remaining 2nd round picks

    Disable Jersey

Get one of the 4 tackles in the first round. Use other picks to trade up if necessary.
