    Just b/c no TB, Manning looks scrappy, SD just lost, Jets are the Jets - no real FAVORITE whereas the NFC has the Giants, Cowboys, Eagles, Saints who are pretty good. What say you?

    #87 Jersey

    Too hard to say right now, but it seems you might be right. The Steelers and Bills and Patriots are all good, but I think the NFC has more clearly high-quality teams right now. We'll find out at the end of the season!

    The NFC is on top right now because this alarming rash of injuries pretty much stayed in the AFC for the most part.

    If we had TB this year with all the other injuries and how weak the AFC looks - we would have had a great chance to go to the SBowl again...

    #12 Jersey

    Right now the Cowboys appears to me to be the best team

    The Saints look to have a powerhouse offense and a solid defense

    The Eagles looked really good on sunday and McNabb looks ready for a great year

    The Packers look like they will not miss Favre that much

    The Colts and Chargers look beatable and the Patriots are likely not going to be the dominant team they looked to be without their #12

    All this is based on 1 week of play but IMO the NFC is definately the stronger conference this year

    QB play is the balance of power, with Brady gone you have parity between the two conferences, though the NFC has two players who just are not getting it done at this level.

    NFC: McNabb, Romo, E.Manning, Delhomme, Brees, Bulger, Campbell, Griese, Hasselbeck, Kitna, O'Sullivan, Orton, Rodgers, Ryan, Warner, Jackson
    Elite (so-called): McNabb, Romo, Brees, Hasselbeck, Bulger
    Journeymen: Delhomme, Kitna, Warner, E.Manning
    Retreads: Griese, O'Sullivan, Orton
    Newbies: Ryan, Rodgers
    Schlubs: Jackson, Campbell

    AFC: Anderson, P.Manning, Collins, Cassel, Palmer, Rivers, Edwards, Favre, Flacco, Garrard, Huard, Pennington, Toothlessberger, Russell, Schaub, Cutler
    Elite (so-called): P.Manning, Palmer, Rivers, Favre, Toothlessberger
    Journeymen: Garrard, Pennington, Collins
    Retreads: Huard,
    Newbies: Anderson, Cassel, Edwards, Flacco, Russell, Cutler, Schaub

    So, the patriots have gone from best ever to a mediocre team because of 2 minutes in February and an injury to Tom Brady.

    And now we are told that not only has the patriots team been affected, but now the entire AFC is diminished and is weaker than the NFC.
    ================================
    This is pretty impressive BS.
    ================================

    1) If we had won the SB and Tom Brady were healthy, the Patriots would be considered the best team ever to play football. Also, the AFC would be considered to vastly dominant over the NFC, as has been the case since 2001.

    2) Tom Brady is just NOT that important. We have a 53 man roster. The patriots are still a playoff team and may move deep into the playoffs. Manning and Cutler are getting healthier by the week. It is not time for the death watch for tha AFC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Listen,
    There has only been one game in the season. If the AFC gets healthy, it will be back to the same. Manning/Colts will get better, Pittsburgh is strong.....For crying out loud there has only been 1 game!!! :eek:

    I answered the same question during the preseason over at Patriots Planet, my answer then was the AFC had a very slight edge over the NFC based on QB strength. Brady going down appears to shift things even closer to parity - now we get to see how this shakes out on the field.

    I think the NFC started catching up to the AFC last season before Brady got hurt. The Patriots and Colts i thought were the top 2 and Dallas, Green Bay and Giants rounded out the top 5. Now you can add Philly and the Saints, Bucs are solid even though they lost, the Bears and Panthers looked good too in shocking upsets.

    It's too early to say for sure which conference is stronger but there is no denying that the NFC has narrowed the gap.

    It's Week 1. Even the Patriots have had hiccups in Week 1 (2003 comes to mind). Give it a month before we get a better handle on how the conferences are going. I still think the Colts, Chargers, and Jaguars are better than most NFC teams.

    I love if statements. Can I play that game too? If the Chargers were not decimated by injuries the Patriots would have finished 17-1 and avoided the humiliation of losing the SB.

    There are lies, damn lies and then this statement. Belichick will not admit it publicly, but he knows his team is done this year.

    I think the Steelers are at the top. I was only including teams that had lost this past weekend.
