Another out of touch politician who is whining and bytching about how he only makes 174K per year.. guess the GOP is upset with him and his comments, so they are trying to curtail your freedoms by expunging this video...

Wonder how this will resonate with the "fiscally conservative" folks from Wisconsin??

GOPers Demand Sean Duffy Salary Tape Be Pulled From The Internet (VIDEO) | TPMDC

Probably not able to find the youtube video of his comments, as the lovers of the constitution are sanitizing his trail and aborting our ability to obtain this information.

I just don't get members who constantly post threads with the only purpose being to shed light on the wrongs of the "other side".

You're certainly not the only one who does it here. PF13, Wolfie, Holy Diver...you're all in the same sad boat in my opinion. What does it achieve? Sometimes it appears as if you all try to find some piece of information against what you "Imagine" to be the "other side" just to balance a post made by someone from the "other side".

The only thing is (and it's pretty funny too) is that there is no "OTHER SIDE". You and the others don't have a clue to the reality of the fact that we're all on the "SAME side"

Each of you smugly act (and prolly believe) that you're on the "right-side", when there is no such thing. It's become a laughable, childish game of "see what I found?"

But of course I don't expect it to stop...and it won't.

In all honesty, governors of some states SHOULD make a LOT more than other governors. And they all make less than the market value of their responsibilities. As compared to a toll collector who makes FAR above his/her market value. I suggest you look at all gov't jobs, and I think you'd find that most of the lower skilled state workers make more than their market value. Especially considering that a good chunk of them got hire because they knew someone. At least governors only get hired if the people of their state choose them.

In my company, we have many people who make more than $174k who aren't even vice presidents. And I can guarantee you they don't have the responsibility of a governor. That being said, it is a public service job, so $174k is a pretty chunk of change (unless you're governor or NY, NJ, CA, MA, MD or one of the other super high-cost of living states.

He shouldn't have said anything publically and that was stupid. Other than that, I don't know jack about the guy. Hey, our POTUS only makes $400K/yr...so how can this guy complain?

Geez how stupid of me, thought that this was a political board, your silence is however noted on all of the other threads.. thanks for paying attention.

How would you have phrased it? The reality is that the GOP is trying to silence your first amendment rights by suppressing the video's....

    My "Silence"???

Guess what Darryl...this board and the threads posted here (including mine) just aren't important. Who gives a ratsass about what topics our members choose to comment upon?

    I guess you do....

Right vs. Left isn't important. The ONLY thing that is important are the issues themselves. The only things we post here are our opinions on the topics we choose.

    Eh, PR is right, though.

With this level of political discourse becoming the norm, it should be no surprise that we're getting the elected officials we deserve.

He isn't in a Union so his $174k salary is set in stone. I blame the idiots in his district that voted for him.

As Holy Diver eloquently stated: This guy was on MTVs "The Real World"

Well according to the link at website reporting the story, Duffy is one of the 'poorest' congresspersons.

The same article indicates that Duffy sleeps at various locations and isn't maintaining a residence in DC. He also said he was open to reducing his salary if it was tied to a more general cut in government salaries.

He did say it was hard to make ends meet (paying for all the kids + 2 houses in his home district. He did say he wasn't living high on the hog. This seems to be accurate based on his finances.

Perhaps we should raise the salary of Congresspeople then? Imagine how hard it must be for the middle class union workers who are being targeted by the right wing? I guess the tea party activists motto should be 'Misery loves company.'

Actually the dems put the raises for congressional salaries on auto pilot some time ago. He isn't asking for more if you read his comments, he is saying he isn't living "high on the hog", seems like a reasonable comment.

I wonder if you'd consider the same comment reasonable if it were made by a public union member with 2 homes...

The guy was asked a question, he answered the question. Didn't say he should get more said he was OK with getting less if it was tied to a general wage cut for gov employees.

What is the issue? That he said he wasn't rich? Well open secrets has verified that.

Ah, that's right.....auto pay raises took effect in 1989, 22 years ago.

Then those 12 years that Republicans held the majority in congress, 95-97, 97-99, 99-01, 03-05, 05-07, and 07-09 when each party held 49 seats they voted to end the auto pay raise, right?

    Right.

    I remember that.

    Sure I do.

So, then, why don't you have some sympathy for union workers who get far less than he does from the taxpayers?

Actually, he went well beyond answering it.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for a guy who tries to make a point that his debt is higher than other people's, or that he's struggling to make ends meet for his family of 7 and 2 homes.

My earlier comment was a bit tongue in cheek (re fiscal discipline), but there was some truth to it, too. I don't know his situation, but maybe he shouldn't have bought that 2nd home if things were so tight.

I don't have an "issue" with him, except that I think he sounded like a fool.

He certainly isn't rich, at least not from his income.

    ---------

All that said, I still don't think you'd consider his comment reasonable if he were a public union member or a Dem saying the same thing.

when it suits you (i.e. it's against the right) you're skeptical, yet when it's something that favors the right you don't doubt sources for a second.

When appearances are bad for Dems, appearance is what matters to you. When appearances are bad for a pubbie but the facts are OK, all you claim to care about are the facts.

I think his comments were twisted to fit a political agenda. If he were like Sen Carnahan who supports higher taxes and doesn't pay her taxes then there would be an issue.

His comments will not resonate well with the voters of Wisconsin, where the average salary is 52K per year...

No matter how you cut it, he sounds like a whiner...

Re-read my post Flex, you missed the point. I made a valid point, and all Darryl had to say was

"your silence in other threads is noted"

That is just a stupid, idiotic, short-sited, self-serving, dweeble of a thing to say. So I just made the point that if we choose NOT to comment upon a thread, it has exactly NO MEANING WHAT-SO-EVAH....get it now?

I was wrong to include PF13 in my list above. After reviewing his threads, it's obvious he doesn't

"post threads with the only purpose being to shed light on the wrongs of the "other side"".

He takes a more conservative posture in his posts, but he doesn't start attack threads like some here.

    My apologies to PF13.
