For instance, Graham says, "I'm actually happy that I'm out of there."
And no one asks him why?
How hard is it?
Here: "Why?"
Graham: "Because they made me stay in and block 95% of the time."
IIRC, I believe we were said to be "in touch with his people" throughout the process so while we may not have formally offered a contract I think he knew he could have a job with us; however it would have been for far less than he got.
They were never going to not cut him at that salary. But if he'd have come back for $1M or so, I have little doubt they'd have taken him. Just like Troy and Seau are playing for. What does that mean? They cut him on the eave of the CBA being signed which would have provided even more cap space. The message was clear, thanks for the memories, leave your playbook at the door.

Now...here is where my info got real juicey...McGinest does not want or needs to be involved in this at all. WHY??? Because he had a contract in principle with the Browns around mid-season of 2005. No mention either way of Uberstein here...possible brought in at the final minute to lend credibility to the contract...and wanted a few more for his risk. This is why Belichick has been so silent on the McGinest stories. Perhaps Bill new last year Willie would be gone this year???
Either way...he got more money there than he would have made here so it seems like no big deal...except for the contract in principal part which though hard to prove...is wrong. But, at least we now know why all those teams that were interested in Mcginest were never given the time of day. McGinest and the Browns waited a bit to make it all look good.

Good read by Felger...and I hope the media picks up that McGinest was shopping himself around sometime last season. I posted this under a Vinatieri thread here somewhere, it was told to me as (locker room talk). Perhaps with the teams blessing??? Sounds like tampering to me though...even though it won't go anywhere...but the media needs to report truthfully, as opposed to making it look like Willie was cast aside like a used ball.

Defensive end Ty Warren and guard Stephen Neal also met with the media, with Warren saying that McGinest dropped hints about leaving soon after the playoff loss in Denver and Neal acknowledging that the Pats' offer (four years, $10 million, $3.5 million bonus) was competitive with the others he received on the open market. It's all about the business of free agency, something Bruschi still fights.

Personally I have no time or interest in any former players turning bittermen. None!! DON'T CARE ONE BIT!!
BTW Willie went over to ManJudas and put his arm around him after the Browns/Jets game last week. A touching moment!!
I know this doesn't matter a whole lot, but I was surprised to read this:

I remember him shoving another Patriot, I can't recall who, during the Denver playoff game they lost - his last with the team, but I thought that was just frustration. Did he leave on bad terms?
You are a remarkable archivist, Nut !
Striking to see, at the bottom of your second citation, this from someone named
Box O Rocks:
Man, i miss that guy!
(Box, not Willie.)
no they both went to USC and know each other, Seau called Willie to ask him if he had a problem with him wearing that number, and willie gave his blessing.Isn't he pissed off that the Pats gave 55 to Seau two years ago?
I think WMG's benefit to Cleveland was more in teh locker room than on the field. The value to Romeo of having a player keep the youngsters in line cannot be over-stated.The Browns gave him twice what he was worth. I love willie, but what kind of a deal has it been for Cleveland?
