gee, what about Brady. Will the Patriots trade Tom Brady?

Im so glad you posted this poll. ;)

:disagreement:

No. If he weren't going to be a UFA then probably yes but as it stands, keeping him isn't really an option.

I refuse to vote, on the grounds that I'm curious what punishment the OP has in store for me :p

While I feel happy for Cassel that he'll get his payday, I selfishly am pretty bummed that no matter what, he probably won't be a Patriot next year.

Sure, I'm going to be pretty pumped if we tag and flip him for some picks, but the bottom line is, he's a very likeable guy and player, he's played pretty well in some tough circumstances, and while he has his flaws as a QB, he has perhaps the most important one - mental toughness. If he were signed for 3 or 4 years, you'd have to feel comfortable about having him as a backup.

Those are two entirely different questions.

While I really doubt BB would trade away a healthy Tom Brady to keep Matt Cassel. However, if there is a decent enough likelihood that Brady would begin the season on the PUP, I could see the Patriots signing Cassel to a 1 or 2 year deal or using the tag to keep him.

Actually to only realistic situation in which I could see Brady being traded would be the following.

1) Pats tag MC, not for "tag and trade" but b/c of concern Brady would be starting the season on PUP.

2) Brady is healthy at the start of camp.

3) No team is willing to give up a pick to take on MC's huge one year salary.

4) Another team is willing to give a bunch of picks for TB.

Will it cost Pats a lot of money to keep Cassel as a backup QB?

Yes, same amount of money as it would cost to keep him as a starter. He is not going to agree to back up money to hold Brady's clip board if another team is offering him starter money.

It's not even the money that matters so much as the ability to start. Assuming he's a UFA, I think he might take a little less money to play for a better team (i.e., Vikings over Lions).

NO I do not think so, will want to give the Pats a home town discount for taking a chance on him and then giving him the opportunity to start. That is the way that sports in this day and age works..
