Someone hoping to bait me asked an accidental question. He/She asked if the Patriots will ever be respected again.

I thought back to when the Patriots were respected.

Era of Brady as a “system” QB?
I have not looked it up, but I'm 98% sure that the top 5 teams that won Super Bowls with the least number of pro-bowlers would include the 2001, 2003, and 2004 Patriots. Winning the Super Bowl then “experts” don't pick them to win the division. (Yes, they have company on that dis.)
Prior to that they were not respected or disrespected. They were ignored.

My answer was no, they were never respected and anyone who thinks they were is a moron.:)

I think your poll is missing a choice. I pick D for "who cares--fear is better than respect".

Time heals all wounds. In a number of years I believe the that the true nature of this minor rule violation will be brought to light and it will become a minor footnote like Denver cheating on the salary cap. I never knew thy did until spy-gate.

I voted "no" and it was the most difficult click ever. We've been screwed over and the haters will never relent.

Sure. Theyll be respect again. By atleast 14 or 15 opponents this year after they drop the hammer on them. Youd think theyd still be respected after winning 17 straight games following that Jets game. Maybe another year of dropping the hammer on everyone will earn back some of that respect.

Fans of other teams dont really matter in this poll. Meaning when I think of WHO we're talking about respecting our boys, all we need care about are the feelings of the opposition. And short of a few hot head knuckleheads like Joey Porter, the entire league respects this team to the Nth degree. There's no question about that.

And are we really worried about what the media thinks? Didnt think so.

    Disable Jersey

We live in a "WIN!!!" nation. This team is on pace to be the most dominant 'dynasty' in NFL history. There'll be plenty of respect for them.

The Pats since 2001-02 have always been respected; in fact, they have always been feared.

ur mixing up respect with hatred friend...

the patriots have always been respected, since their win agaisnt the rams in the superbowl

even last year the patriots were respected...

however, after the third SB win, the patriots began to be hated, and that continues to today...

last year, with spygate, respect wasnt really lost, but hatred grew

The Pats will be respected when they are no longer hated - which will happen when they are no longer feared, which won't happen until they are no longer dominant.

In other words, the Pats won't be respected until the day comes when they are a mediore team, or worse, for more than one season. At that point opposing fans can reflect without emotion - similar to how many fans now look at some of the Cowboy and Raider teams from past decades. Until then expect more of the same that we saw last season; to many fans of the other 31 teams Tom Brady is the cowboy in the black hat; BB is James Bond's Blofeld, and our starting line is Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago coming after their Rocky Balboa.

If they win the title everyone will be kissing their ass all over again, America is a reactionary country. They choked, bringing the offseason of hell with the media heads.

    Word  ..................

I was gonna post this exact same thing. All of the disrespect, anger and even much of the spygate hoopla (including some aspects of the league punishment IMO), are all attempts to marginalize them and bring them back into the fold.

The NFL world is not right unless there is parity. Parity is not achieved when one team continues to defy, and indeed excel in the face an overwhelming effort to make every team of reasonably similar competitiveness.

As long as Belichick is coach, this team will be the most hated outside of Pats nation - Once he is gone the team may regain some respect, but of course that may mean the inevitable lean years as well.

The questions assumes the Patriots are not respected now. Of course they are.
Much of what you're hearing from other fans is pure jealousy. They'd kill to get BB coaching their team and Tom Brady as their QB.
Much of what you're hearing from mediots is because BB STILL refuses to kiss their sorry a%&es even after all this!!!
And as far a Joey Porter goes??? His ass is red over being Tom Brady's b!tch for a few years now.
Ask another Miami Dolphin, Mr. Jason Taylor, if he could be traded to just one team where would he want to go.
    You bet we're respected!!
(Btw BB was asked to speak at the NCAA lacrosse banquet. Boy is he tarnished nationally huh?? :D )

Exactly;) I almost didn't vote because the question assumes they're not respected now. You don't necessarily have to be LIKED and embraced in order to be respected.
Through it all they remain the most relevant team in the NFL, and they're feared. It's no secret that had all this happened to the Cards or the Lions nobody would've cared. There's a reason for that.

    x2

What surprises me are some of the people who I thought were knowledgeable of the game were making some outlandish remarks.

If that was in reply to me or not I can't tell.

The 2002 Patriots being an underdog at home vs. Pittsburgh because they were respected? How many times did you have to explain the "rule" part of "tuck rule" means something?

You think Colt fans did not hate them in 2003? (Just before their 2nd Super Bowl win, btw.)

You need links from Pete Prisco in 2003 about how Brady really is not as good as Manning but is a very good Trent Dilfer?

You need links to off season mags predicting the imminent rise of Miami or NY in the AFC East. (This year its the Bills, but at least they are not predicted tom win the division.)

As for last year, I'll assume you meant 2006.

no, it wasnt a response to you...i didnt read any other posts when i posted, i just posted (im guilty of that sometimes)

but the patriots were disliked and other teams were jealous of them in the instances you name...

and the raider fans did what was natural, blame the game on a call,

prisco is an idiot, when the colts lost, they lost a chance at the title, they would have hated whatever team it was, not just the patriots

and people wish to be known as geniouses, so they always predict NE to fall, and another team to become a miracle.....its stupid, but it will happen some day (give it about 10 years) and then that person will have it as a claim to fame type of thing

Hate is a strong word, and other players and fans did not hate the pats, until they became a dynasty, in an era when that was deemed impossible

before that they were often disliked, and envied, but not hated, not until the title of dynasty was instilled

Except that, thanks to the Herald Hack, this offseason was going to be teh suck regardless, and, as I've pointed out before, I think the media Wurlitzer would have been even worse if the Pats had won.
