Will Maroney reach 1,000 yards before a receiver on this team?

OK This may sound odd because a starting running back usually is near certain to get 1,000 yards before a receiver but I don't think Maroney will be used as much or as heavily in the backfield as people think,I see Sammy Morris getting more carries than anyone thinks here and may be as in and out of plays like Corey was and I would not be surprised to see a 2 headed rushing attack once again, even without the hard pounding RB Corey was.

If Maroney has 950 yards and Sammy 800 Yards plus (yards to the other backs on the roster) it would not be shocking to me.

I think there is a possibility if Moss,Stallworth or even Welker gets hot and becomes a main target for Brady they could actually pass 1,000 yards BEFORE any runner does,if they actually do.

This may be the year Brady has that ONE go to main guy in crunch times,Although it may be a while before we learn who that is,The days of Brady passing to 7 different receivers a game may change if one of these new guys stands out

We could easily see a 1,000 yard receiver out of this bunch IMO,and possibly a reciever that exceeds the yardage made by Maroney.

This pertains to yardage ON THE GROUND by Lawrence not including passing yardage he will get.

It is all possible. Either way, this offense will put up big numbers as a whole.

I'd say 1100 yards or 1200 yards is where Maroney would land on a good year. If he struggles to find lanes, and misreads holes (basically has a bad year) then I'd say around 800 or 900 yards. I'll predict 1100 for Maroney. There coule be 3 backs in this division over 1200 yards.

Come on, Patspride, that's no way to treat a guy who posts in earnest, gives his honest opinion, and usually is fairly respectful of other posters.

By the way, Aqua, you ever pay that bet?

I don't see anyone on offense getting to 1000 besides Brady (by week three!) because there's too many weapons to spread the ball around to...and that's a good thing.

It's not like 1000 is a lot of yards, Manning Had 3 1000 yards recievers plus a 1500 yard rusher so Id say with this offense at least 1 1000 yard reciever isn't out of the question, mabye 2

Yeah 1,000 yards is not very much, especially for a running back. If a starting running back does not get 1,000 yards in a year he was either injured a lot or is just not very good. Maroney should manage to put up 1300 yards if he stays reasonably healthy.

LoMo will get more than 950, and Morris will get WAY LESS than 800. 800???? How? And, yes, Maroney goes over 1000 before a WR does because I don't think any receiver will get 1000.

Yes. Maroney is going to have a big year for a few reasons. First, the switch to zone blocking will benefit both Maroney and the O-Line. In fact, Maroney has 4 years experience in the zone blocking scheme and flourished as a starter. Second, opposing defenses are forced to respect Moss and Stallworth or else it's bombs away on single coverage. Also, let's not forget defenses have to worry about Ben Watson and Wes Welker controlling the middle of the field. Therefore, Maroney isn't going to see too many strong safeties inside the box as an 8th man on the line to act as a spy on the RB. In conclusion, teams will be so worried about the variety of looks that the Pats can bring on offense, will result in defenses sacrifing LB's for DB's. So I see the Pats running the football a lot and see Maroney making defenses pay the price. Maroney is going to explode!

I hope you're right. I just wonder how strong he's going to be having not been able to lift with his shoulder all off season.

Agreed. It's nice to see Aqua, and other fans for that matter, making rational football posts as opposed to talking smack.

I too hope you are right. Perhaps the zone blocking will make a difference. Last year when he hesitated to hit the hole he was dead meat. I actually think it might be neck and neck for a while between Maroney and Moss for 1,000 yards.
