Mike Reiss mentioned this in his mailbag and I figured I'd put it to the "experts" here at Patsfans.

What do you think? Will Mankins start when he returns?

No absolutely Not. Why upset the chemistry the line has developed.

I hope he doesn't! Dan C. is playing fine at the moment!

If they were to resign Mankins to a long contract, could they move DC or LM to RG in Neal's place?

BB will let him rot on the inactive list every week and if we make it to the SB cut his greedy ass

Odds are he won't right away. He is going take time to get into game shape. My guess is that he will rotate in for the first few weeks.

Maybe on plays where Connolly is used as a fullback?

Mankins at LG and Connolly at Center might be worth trying out.

Put Douchekins on inactive so he loses money.

Umm.. He's losing money as it is because, when he reports, the contract will be pro-rated. Making Mankins a weekly inactive does not hurt Mankins salary at all. The only way they could do financial damage to Mankins is if the league were to suspend him for detrimental conduct. And Mankins has kept his nose clean, unlike Vincent Jackson.

WEEI's Christopher Price wrote his opinion on this topic yesterday:

It Is What It Is What’s next for Logan Mankins and the Patriots?

The answer is probably C. If he's better and practices better and it makes the line better, BB will not hesitate to put him there.

I really want the answer to be B though. I don't want him to play another down for us.

I think this is unlikely, but I agree. Koppen has not played well.

At the present time we have one of the best O-lines in the league. 12th in rushing, despite a pass first offense and no RB of note and 2nd in fewest QB hits allowed and 4th in sacks allowed.

As the saying goes: "If it ain't broke don't fix it."

Seeya Logan, you overplayed your hand.

Yeah but if he doesn't play he can't make a case for getting paid more next year.

    Disable Jersey

I don't want to get too deep on this, but the line surrendered only 18 sacks all last season, even with the receiver problems, the missed time by the tackles and Neal, and with Brady still working through things while on the comeback trail. 8 Sacks through 5 games translates to about 26 sacks on the season.

    As an aside:

One thing I noticed in the Baltimore game is that both Ngata sacks came on players where Connolly went to help Light, and left Koppen one-on-one with Ngata. I'd love to know if that was the protection call for those plays, or if that was a misread on the line. I doubt anyone on the Patriots has commented on this but, if they have, I'd appreciate someone passing on the info.

I think he should hold the gatorade bottles for the OL.
