    1. Does the idea of a Wildcat for the Pats make any sense, considering that:

    A. They don't want Brady to get beat up.
    B. Up to a point, Brady can take a hit.
    C. Brady is slow.
    D. Brady is a big guy who could presumably catch a pass if wholly uncovered.

    2. If the Pats run a Wildcat, does it make sense to have anybody except Faulk taking the snap, given that Faulk:

    A. Has played some QB
    B. Has run effectively off of direct snaps

No it doesn't make any sense for Brady to run it. But it does make a whole lot of sense to have Edelman on your practice squad to defend against it.

Is there a need for a wildcat formation when you have Tom Brady? I don't think so, especially not with the depth we have on the offensive line now. We might run a few wildcat plays with Kevin Faulk, but I don't see it happening very often.

You can't call plays with confidence if you are constantly worrying about the health of your quarterback. I think they will proceed as they normally do.

Brady is not slow...he moves better in the pocket than anyone else in the nfl....Bledsoe claimed he was faster than Brady remember how he moved in the pocket? Bradys a Qb not an RB

Brady is slow. He just has great pocket presence and knows how to move.

And no I don't see the Pats using a wildcat formation. That formation is a gimmick for offenses that don't have the fire power to move the ball consistently.

You're all missing my point. This suggests I wasn't very clear. :)

Recall that in a Wildcat, your usual QB turns into a WR. That would be Brady's role.

I think that for the reasons listed above, even if listed in a round-about way, the answer is NO. Why bother?

    No Jersey Selected

If the goal is to give me a heart attack, then they should do it. Otherwise it's an awful idea that increases Brady's chance of injury.

The Wildcat hasn't worked since mid last season. I dont know why people harp on it anymore.

    Disable Jersey

Brady may not be fast by any definition of the term but he is not slow. In his first couple years he entered the summer QB competition and he blew away the other QBs on the long pass (remember the mediots and yes, alleged Pats fans who said he didn't have a premier NFL arm) and on the agility run time.

First : let's see if the league can stop TFB and RFM. Then, let's keep trying TFB to RFM a few more times. If that's a no-go, let's get Morris to run up the middle for 4 yards and see what's going on with RFM downfield. Lastly, let's get Welker the ball 110+ times and throw it downfield to RFM.

Here's the deal. I work all week... I have a few hours to watch my favorite team... after waiting half a year for football to begin, the reigning MVP going down within 15 minutes. Don't show me the wildcat. Don't talk to me about a Pat White wannabe. Get Brady under center and run the unstoppable offense.

    :)

For the record, I agree that there's little point in the Pats going w/ the Wildcat given the quality of their base offense.

You stole the words right out of my mouth. Except replace Morris with Taylor and don't forget to send some passes to old man Joey Galloway. The wildcat is a gimmick, a gimmick that worked for a bit, but a gimmick we don't need. Let's get out skill guys out there, let's tell the line to keep TFB clean and let's enjoy the scoreboard fireworks. Wildcat, we don't need no stinkin Wildcat, just TFB being TFB.

It seems to me that the #1 thing teams defending the Pats offense are trying to do is take Brady out of the game. Why do it for them?

    That makes no sense.

Only if they have O'Connell at WR which is a possibilty since he is a mobile QB. Brady is too valuable to leave exposed like that at WR.

Maybe the Pats will use the Wild"FY" formation. :)
